The Team

As part of CDIO, Enterprise Platform Services, Network Services are accountable for every aspect of the HMRC network including 100+ sites, 5 Data Centres, 2 Cloud providers and over 5000 network devices that make up the HMRC estate.

Within the Design Engineering Team in Network Services, we work closely with other areas of CDIO, the wider department and 3rd party suppliers to design and implement technical network solutions to enable the transformation of our network estate and to support HMRC's strategic goals.

Network Services is a product-based organisation and we're offering this exciting opportunity to undertake a key role in our transformational journey as a Senior Network Engineer within the Product Tower for Data Centre, specialising in Cisco ACI.

The Role

Working within the secure HMRC network environment we are looking for an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join our highly skilled team. The role is aligned within the DDaT framework as; Technical / Lead Network Architect

As a recognised thought-leader you will be working alongside other Senior Network Architects and Product Tower Leads to offer high level consultancy, governance and strategy shaping, creating, and maintaining design patterns, processes, and procedures.

As a highly recognised technical leader you will be working closely with project teams on a variety of deliveries across HMRC, and other Government Departments, taking initial customer proposals/specifications and creating completed high level design documentation.

You will be responsible for leading a team through implementation of major configuration changes across the HMRC estate, such as the migration out of our legacy data centres to a new Cisco ACI Platform

Responsibilities:

Overall authority on High Level design and governance

Demonstrating a continuous improvement mind set and driving an on-going cycle of process improvement and best practice

Leading a team through the implementation of complex changes, ensuring the appropriate governance is adhered to.

Engaging and maintaining positive relationships with programme/project teams, including Other Gov. Departments and 3rd party suppliers.

Providing technical architectural input at review meetings/workshops.

Delivering to challenging timescales and managing priorities within the team

Sharing knowledge/experience of products/services/technologies.

Demonstrating passion and leadership, to inspire and nurture our Network talent and actively helping with the development of other team members where possible.

Essential criteria

Able to demonstrate a broad experience of working with Cisco ACI and able to articulate the direction of travel for software defined networking solutions for Data Centres.

Able to demonstrate experience of designing and implementing Cisco ACI and working in a complex data centre environment

Advanced Cisco Certifications

CCNA

CCNP

CCIE

CCSA

CISP

The successful candidate must hold SC Clearance as a minimum, or the willingness to undertake the process to obtain.

Desirable Criteria

Advanced knowledge of the following:

Cisco ACI qualifications (DCACI)

Data Centre topology

Cisco hardware including switches, routers, and load-balancers

Firewalls including Fortinet, Checkpoint, Sidewinder and Cisco ASA

Routing protocols, particularly BGP and OSPF

HP Aruba switches, WLC's and AP's

Cloud Networking including Azure, AWS, and Oracle
