Mechanical Design Engineer

Our client is looking for an experienced mechanical design engineer to join an exciting team at a great and growing company who are leading in machine design. You will be tasked with working on projects for companies to design and manufactor machines using CAD systems and solid works.

Key Responsiilities of the mechanical design engineer.

• Design and coordination of mechanical and electro-mechanical elements of complex, integrated automation systems and cells.
• Attend design meetings/reviews and communicate your design intent.
• Take part in reviews of new/revised design proposals, including reviewing manufacturing and assembly costs.
• Prepare drawings for sub-contractors both in UK and overseas, carry out liaison work with sub-contractors including resolving issues in the design and its interpretation.
• Carry out modifications to existing drawings and designs identified during build / maintenance, following analysis and cost justification.
• Provide input and advice to the manufacturing / commissioning teams during the installation of the project on-site.
• Take part in design improvement reviews of existing machinery.
• Improve and update existing designs to ensure the design meets all relevant health and safety requirement & compliance with European directives.
• Prepare manufacturing drawings.
• Prepare layout drawings.
• Prepare design calculations, specifications and documentations.
• Be able to calculate requirements and source appropriate hardware based on machine specifications i.e. Pumps, Motor Gearboxes, Air Blowers, heaters.
• Create CAD models and subsequent Bill of Materials in SolidWorks and co-ordinate the design with other parties.
• The candidate must be comfortable with solidworks and with using CAD systems

Qualifications, experience and skills of the mechanical design engineer.

• Academic qualification of minimum HND, potentially a degree in engineering
• Engineering design experience, ideally in a machine build enviroment
• The candidate must be comfortable with solidworks and with using CAD systems
• Experience with both metals and plastic materials
• An excellent grasp of engineering and design principles
• An understanding of machine building processes and construction methods
• Familiarity with pneumatics, electric motors & electronic control systems
• Experience designing conveyor equipment would be advantageous
• General computer literacy including Outlook, Excel and Word
