Our client have a fantastic opportunity to join their Supported Housing Team in the role of Tenancy Support Worker. 

 

 

The main purpose of this role is to work with individuals and families in our Short Stay Accommodation SSA (hostels) to prepare them for independent living. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities include: 

 

  • Assisting tenants to access specialist help if needed and in obtaining and completing relevant application forms. 
  • Liaison with statutory and voluntary organisations, respecting confidentiality and working within data protection guidelines. 
  • Ensuring that all utility services are in place and that residents who need to claim benefits, to maximise their income, are supported to do so. 
  • Working with tenants to ensure that they can maintain their tenancies by supporting them in developing their life skills. 
  • Providing cover in the SSA team and being flexible in providing cover for colleagues when required. Work as part of the SSA rota, including Saturdays, subject to the needs of the service. 
  • Monitoring the status of housing benefit applications and rent accounts to ensure no arrears are reported before support plans are closed. 
  • To support, challenge and empower new tenants to identify and address key tenancy concerns by implementing targeted interventions to overcome barriers to tenancy sustainment. 
  • To support and empower tenants to access services that will support them to manage health, financial, drug and alcohol dependency, social and behavioural factors that affect tenancy sustainability. 

 

 

Essential Criteria: 

 

  • Knowledge of housing legislation and application in respect of how this may relate to the tenant/ landlord relationship. 
  • Experience of working in supported housing. 
  • Knowledge of welfare benefits and statutory and voluntary services available for vulnerable adults and families. 
  • Knowledge and experience of priority health and safety risks that impact on tenancy management. 
  • Ability and experience of motivating and empowering individuals in challenging situations to take ownership of their situation and promote long term change.  Ability and experience in delivering effective customer care. 
  • A good level of ICT skill and experience of using databases to record case work. 
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present information in a culturally accessible and age-appropriate way; and to establish positive working relationships.
