Role: Procurement Solicitor
Contract Length: 6 Months
Location: Milton Keynes - Remote/Part Remote
Job Purpose:
To provide legal advice to client departments throughout the Council in relation to contracts, procurement and governance issues in order to enable the Council to lawfully achieve outcomes and to prevent or mitigate risks.
Key Objectives
Maintain a legal caseload consisting of contract and procurement matters ensuring that all work is of high quality and is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
Maintain and build effective professional working relationships with clients, stakeholders and relevant external organisations to ensure that the Council is best placed to achieve its objectives.
Be a team member who is helpful, self-motivated and can be relied upon.Summary of work profile
Provide legal, procurement, commercial and governance advice on a range of projects from start to finish. Includes advising on project boards and relevant governance committees where required.
Drafting and negotiating contracts and other agreements of varying natures and complexities with the objective of preventing or minimising risk to the Council.
Take responsibility for allocated cases from instruction through to completion.
Ensure effective use of the case management system IKEN including opening files for all new instructions and ensuring that an up to date record of matters is kept in IKEN.
Attend meetings as necessary
Ensure accurate time recording within IKEN for any work that is done for third parties such as schools.
Maintain a detailed knowledge of developments in law that could impact upon the Council's work in relation to contracts and procurement.
Essential Skills and Experience:
Solicitor or Fellow with minimum 3 years PQE.
Significant experience in procurement and contract law advice.
Effective communicator orally and in writing and who can engage confidently at all levels.
A team player who is reliable, helpful and self - motivate
