We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Cost Accountant to join our leading Bath based client. The Finance Team provides reporting, budgeting, and forecasting information to the organisation and to external funding and regulatory bodies. The team is based incentral Bath but there is a flexi-time policy and hybrid working.

The role

The Cost Accountant role is a fantastic opportunity to gain insight and experience into the financial workings of the organisation, the implications for its long-term strategy and exposure to key questions facing the broader industry sector.

There is a large element of working to maintain and develop the company's activity-based costing models for both internal and external reporting. This is highly relevant information focusing on financial sustainability and the real value of this role is the interpretation of the results and ability to explain this to senior managers and other key stakeholders.

If you have an inquisitive mind and the desire to develop you will gain skills and experience that could prepare you for a variety of future roles within finance or beyond. You may be in a management accounting role already and looking for the next step into a role where you will have overall responsibility and become the expert in your area. This role could also suit someone from a practice background with experience of applying accounting guidelines and looking to work more closely with data and financial models.

In this role you will be involved in:

  • Using costing data to answer regular and ad-hoc queries with a view to improving overall financial sustainability
  • Preparing and presenting reports for senior management including meeting regularly with the oversight group
  • Managing the costing process, liaising with colleagues across the university to collate the source data
  • Producing course costing information - this model is relatively new with scope for further development as the demand is growing for this information
  • Producing the Resource Allocation Model (internal management report)

The person

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified
  • The ability to think strategically and creatively and contribute to institutional policymaking
  • The ability to take ownership of a process and to use judgement in how to apply the appropriate treatment to specific costs or income
  • Experience with using Excel to manage large data sets and maintain accuracy
  • Be confident in learning to use new and different systems
