Nursery Manager

Our client is looking to recruit a Nursery Manager who will manage the Nursery, in line with the Nursery policies and procedures. Working with the Nursery Leadership Team lead the Nursery ensuring focus on the needs of the children as well as being accountable for nursery finances, deployment of resources (human and otherwise), quality of the curriculum, Health and Safety, partnership with parents and community engagement and child protection.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Delivering excellent leadership and management

To lead and manage the Nursery leadership team

Ensure that the nursery protects and promotes the safeguarding of children and families in line with legislation, taking appropriate action when needed.

To ensure that all relevant Nursery policies and procedures are cascaded to the nursery team and implemented as appropriate

Use time productively and in conjunction with the Nursery Management team, prioritise workloads to achieve results, whilst understanding the urgency of situations and meeting deadlines

Keep a continuous track of what needs to be done to provide an effective and efficient early years provision which meets the nursery standards

Lead the nursery leadership team in reviewing how the nursery operates in order to improve the service offered and take account of current best practice and the needs of children and families.

Lead and develop a learning culture that encourages staff to try new things, instilling confidence and helping them reflect and learn from their experience through informal as well as formal knowledge sharing.

Quality

To ensure the implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage is delivered to the Nursery standard, ie differentiated, meeting the needs of all children, building on the ideas of staff and parents and children.

Ensure accurate record keeping on children's needs, abilities and progress, including regular audit of records

Child Protection, integrated working and promoting the welfare of the child

Implement and follow Child Protection Policies and Procedures in line with the Safeguarding Boards guidelines.

Ensure that all nursery staff are aware updated regularly on safeguarding, child protection, whistle-blowing policies and procedures.

Managing interactions with other professionals and Nursery staff in support of children and families, disclosing information to other professionals in compliance with confidentiality protocols, Nursery policies and procedures.

Ensure the nursery consistently promotes positive behaviour, self-control and independence in the children through using effective behaviour management strategies and developing children's social, emotional and behavioural skills

Ensure the Nursery maintains and develops a learning environment that is inclusive and promotes children's health, safety and physical, mental and emotional well being

Manage the implementation and monitoring of all plans in relation to children with SEN

Customer Service

In all contact with employees, members of the public conduct themselves in friendly, courteous and professional manner

Deal with first line enquiries from the public, families and professionals including dealing with complaints and compliments

To engage in partnership with families + holding regular parent participation events.

Signpost parent and other professionals to relevant services when necessary.

Human Resource Management

To manage, develop and deploy the whole nursery team, ensuring that the nursery is adequately staffed at all times.

To manage staff in line with performance management framework

To monitor staff absence in line with policy and procedure

To ensure staff access and complete both statutory and developmental training

To ensure consistent implementation of equal opportunities policy

Financial and Information management

To be responsible for all the administration and IT activities of the nursery, including collection of fees, nursery database, purchasing and receipts.

To supply accurate data in relation to contract monitoring and information management.

To monitor the budget for the nursery in liaison with the finance department

To maintain the occupancy target for the nursery

To manage the nursery waiting list to maximize uptake of places

To implement the debt management policy

Health and Safety

To be responsible for the Nursery's compliance and regular audit on:

HSE

Risk Assessment and Risk Management

Fire Risk Assessment and Fire Safety

Security

Ofsted

Contracts

Food Safety and Dietary Needs, including allergies

And any other compliance and regulatory areas that may arise.

Shared Duties and Responsibilities

To work with colleagues to ensure the optimum deployment of staff across the local area.

To manage the deployment of staff and resources in line with policy

Community engagement and partnership working

To ensure the nursery is involved in local community events

To ensure at least twice yearly inter-generational events

Market the nursery with in the local community

Financial Budgetary Approval

To manage the appropriate nursery budgets, monitor spending and take responsibility for all financial and administrative tasks e.g. fee and petty cash reconciliation; equipment inventory. Fees

To positively enable the development of all staff through regular staff meetings and training and development opportunities available both internally and externally.

Performance management of staff through appraisal process and supervisions

To be responsible for implementation of and keeping staff fully informed and updated with all current nursery appropriate policies and procedures.

To take prime responsibility for compliance with all Nursery policies and procedures

To implement and maintain the Early Years Curriculum framework in line with organisation policies including equal opportunities.

To contribute to the continual development of the organisation and the nursery

Qualifications/Experience & Knowledge

NNEB, minimum NVQ Level III (Childcare & Education),BTEC (Childcare) or equivalent

Q2. Leadership or management qualification - desirable

A degree - desirable

Early Years Professional Status - desirable

Post qualified management experience in a group setting working with 3 month - 5 year olds - essential

Business Administration Skills e.g. information management, administration, record keeping - essential

Putting into practice anti-discriminatory education practices - essential

Early Years Curriculum & ability to operate effectively - essential

Ensure high quality childcare is implemented in all areas of the nursery - essential

Set appropriate boundaries for children within the remit of the Nurseries policies and explain to other staff why some methods might not be appropriate - essential

Child Protection issues and procedures - essential

Health & Safety issues & procedures and implementation of H & S policy - essential

Writing clear & concise reports letters etc

Support, motivate and develop a staff team

Organise and facilitate staff meetings & training
