The Cramlington Site near Newcastle has an established history of cGMP manufacturing services for an array of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), ranging from pilot scale to commercial metric ton scale. The Cramlington Site has more than 100 cubic meter reactor commercial capacity and has been inspected and approved by the MHRA, FDA and other regulatory authorities.

The site operates from small scale in the laboratory through to very large manufacturing scale. It also offers chemistry and analytical development services.

The Pharmaron Cramlington Team is looking to expand and recruit a Mechanical Technician to support safe cGMP process and plant operations, on two large scale automated plants, while ensuring site standards for quality and regulatory compliance requirements are met.

Key roles and responsibilities:

- Contribute to required documentation in accordance with GMP guidelines. This includes manufacture documentation, (e.g., Batch Records Sheets, Cleaning Protocols, Standard Operating Procedures, Campaign Reports, Process Descriptions and Technical notes), qualification and validation protocols & procedures.

- Inspection, testing and maintenance of mechanical assets.

- Working on planned preventative maintenance, statutory inspections, breakdown/reactive work within a hazardous area environment.

- Maintaining the efficiency of all processes by minimising downtime due to breakdowns, initiate and implement remedial action where required.

- Ensuring good communications between process, engineering, commercial and technical teams to ensure that business objectives are met; written & verbal.

- Participating in a continuous improvement environment in all areas of the process team operations. Identify and implement opportunities for improvement in all engineering aspects.

- Installation and commissioning of new mechanical systems in conjunction with the assigned Project Engineer.

- Working on and understanding of engineering line drawings.

- Knowledge of Health, Safety & Environmental assessments particularly, caution sheets, risk assessments, manual handling assessments and COSHH.

- Mentoring and training of apprentices and help with knowledge transfers promoting GMP.

- Providing comprehensive handovers between shifts.

- Any other duties as required by the Business Unit Manager that commensurate with the role.

Qualification

- Educated - Minimum NVQ Level 3 in mechanical engineering qualification or equivalent.

Requirements:

Essential:

- Experience as a time served mechanical fitter/technician.

- Knowledge and experience of mechanical seals, valves and pipework, PTFE lined, glass, carbon, pumps, mag drive, vacuum, metering etc

- Good communication skills, a results driven team player with a logical approach to challenges.

- Use initiative to make routine decisions without requiring escalation.

Desirable:

- Experience of safe working within chemical/pharmaceutical manufacture.

- Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.

- Awareness of requirements for Good Manufacturing Practice, Good Lab Practice and Good Documentation Practice.

- Experience of API manufacturing - Quality requirements for chemical handling, cGMP requirements for pharma manufacturing and efficiency.

- Experience of safe working practices in a pharmaceutical production facility with an understanding of safety reviews, HAZOP's and COSHH assessments.
