The Opportunity

Planning is fundamental for the successful delivery of our projects and activities at Leonardo ,and our Project Planning team holds the responsibility for delivering this service in support of the Company's goals and objectives. We are looking for an experienced Project Controls Manager to join our team, within the Electronic Warfare Line of Business at our Luton site.
As the Project Controls Manager, you will be the focal point and subject matter expert for Project Planning and Controls within the Surveillance and Protection Technologies Sector, leading a team of Planners to ensure the delivery of a professional project planning and analysis service alongside acting as part of the leadership team for that sector. This will require expert knowledge and experience in the disciplines of Planning, Project Controls, Earned Value Management (EVM), risk management and associated project and portfolio reporting. You will also be skilled in leading a planning and project controls team, developing individuals and stakeholder management.

What you will do

* Line management of a team of eight planners, including mentoring, coaching, capacity management and responsibility for performance and development reviews.

* Accountable for the quality of the project plans for the Sector through the application of consistent processes, methods, leadership and governance in line with professional Project Planning and Controls standards and methodologies

* Providing business planning, analysis, control and advice to enable efficient project operation and reporting within the sector, including creation and validation of KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)

* Operating as part of the Planning Function and Sector Leadership team, working collaboratively to share best practice, drive strategy, resolve issues and focus on the continuous improvements to the delivery of the service and development of the Function/ Sector

* Providing Project Controls input to the Integrated Business Management cycle at Sector and Line of Business Level

* Being a change agent for strategic improvement activities and drive business improvement to maximise performance including the implementation and integration of new tools and reporting methodologies

* Proactive involvement in the portfolio and strategic planning of business scenarios.

* Verifying the maintenance and accuracy of project plans, ensuring that they reflect the project objectives, are updated in a timely manner and are communicated at all relevant levels

* Delivering effective resource planning by determining the project requirements and planning accordingly

* Proactively identifying, managing and resolving planning resource issues and conflicts with all stakeholders

* Conducting Schedule Analysis and validation in terms of time, cost and resources

* Understanding Risk and Opportunity management and maintenance, including analysis of risks, exposure, contingency and treatment

* Provision of Earned Value Management analysis

* Driving accurate bid planning including estimating for the functional input

* Driving work package reviews, analysis and forward planning

* Ensuring a smooth handover from project planning to production planning

What we are looking for

* Demonstrable experience in one or more Planning/ERP Tools (ideally including Primavera P6 and/or SAP)

* Comprehensive project planning experience with proven expertise in all aspects of planning, project controls and project management methodologies at all stages of the project lifecycle and across projects of varying value/ complexity

* Experience in managing and developing a team

* Familiarity with project lifecycle management techniques

* Risk and Earned Value Management capability

* Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Confidence to challenge and present at all levels of the business

* Pro-active, dynamic individual with proven stakeholder management and influencing skills

* Understanding of Agile techniques desirable

* Change management skills desirable

* APM PMQ, PRINCE 2 or PMI PMP certified desirable
