Head Chef - The Downs, Wraxall
We are looking for the perfect candidate to join our catering team at one of our prestigious Independent Preparatory schools, The Downs in Wraxall, Bristol.
Founded in 1894, The Downs School is an independent day school for approximately 250 boys and girls aged 4 to 13 and is situated at the end of a meandering drive, within 70 acres of stunning parkland and woodland. The school prides itself on providing a healthy, happy and wholesome environment and we need a Head Chef who can work alongside the Chef Manager to help us to deliver the same ethos through our catering offer.
As a member of our team you will be delivering freshly produced meals for the pupils and school staff. There will also be a requirement for delivering various hospitality requests for meetings, events and sports teas. Within this role, your key focus will be preparing and delivering the highest quality of food for our pupils, whether that be breakfast, lunch or supper service.
Details of the Position

Monday to Friday with some Saturday's over sports seasons required to cover match teas and events
*
40 hours per week, straight shifts between 7am and 7pm
*
52 working weeks with 28 days holiday (to be taken during school holidays)
*
GBP30K per annum

Key Responsibilities

Preparing and serving fresh and inviting food
*
Creating termly menus alongside the Chef Manager
*
Deputising in the Chef Manager's absence
*
Food ordering and stock control
*
Food Hygiene, Allergen and Health and Safety compliance
*
Supervision of the team on your shifts
*
Building relationships with client and customers
*
Friendly and polite customer service
Ideal Candidate
*
Experience of working as chef using fresh ingredients, with excellent craft skills
*
Experience of contract catering within a school or similar environment desirable
*
Experience delivering high end hospitality
*
Ability to cost recipes and work to a budgeted food cost
*
Understanding of current food trends and a flair for food presentation
*
Knowledge of health and safety and food safety practices
*
Self-motivated and able to work off your own initiative Ability to motivate others and work as part of a team
*
Own transport is needed due to the location of the school.
