Description

With our Head Office based in Derby, Derbyshire we operate mainly within the Midlands region offering clients a one stop shop for their utilities installation requirements, for water, gas and multi-lay projects. An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor. Reporting to the Commercial Manager you will work alongside the commercial and construction teams. You will be reporting to the commercial teams working alongside the contract delivery team. You will ensure the contractual control, cost management, profitability and cash management of combined schemes. The role will involve assisting with the valuation and submissions of claims for variation works and ensuring that cash flow is maximised and payments are received in good time. We are looking for someone who isn't afraid to challenge, someone who is commercially aware and has an interest in understanding quantities. You will be good with numbers and able to build relationships quickly with suppliers and operational teams. The main duties include the responsibility for the following: •

* Assist admin team with project costings. •

* Assist with client valuations and applications. •

* Assist in the preparation / evaluation / submission of claims for varied works.

* Assist in the drafting and updating of Cost to Completes (CTC's) in conjunction with Project Managers.

* Negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors.

* Ensuring that cash flow is maximised including ensuring that payments are received on time.

* Input to Change Control processes on contracts, identifying, notifying, pricing and the agreement of variations as they arise.

* Attend internal and external commercial review meetings.

* Manage the commercial aspects of subcontract accounts from procurement to interim and final account agreement with significant input from the site managers.

* Identify and Raise Early Warning Notices

Skills and Experience

* Basic Commercial and contractual awareness.

* Some knowledge of NEC would be advantageous. •

* Good Mathematics skills •

* A good level of competency of Microsoft packages •

* Be able to organise yourself and others workload •

* Be proactive in your approach •

* An excellent communicator •

* The ability to anticipate problems and ensure early intervention
