Job Description - Planteria Manager

Reporting to: The General Manager

Responsibility: To manage the daily running of the Planteria. To manage the buying and ordering of product and organisation

of the team members so that the Planteria continues to function at the high level of professionalism expected at all times.

The aim is to delight customers and achieve sales. To be ready to assist the other Managers' in the Garden Centre as and when required.

To be quick thinking and act swiftly to deal with Garden Centre related issues

Starting salary is GBP25,000 per annum [Six-month probationary period]

Five days per week, including one alternating day at the weekend.

Key holding responsibilities.

Flexibility essential.

Working days 8.30am - 5.30pm Mon - Sat / 9am - 5pm on Sundays.

Staff discount available after successful completion of first month.

*Major benefit* Garden centre closes down between Christmas and New Year, with sufficient holiday set aside for this.

Horticultural qualifications are not essential, but a demonstration of a thorough understanding of plants, pests, diseases etc. is required.

Main Duties

Customer Focus

To ensure that all team membersgo out of their way to please the customer and provide outstanding service.
To motivate the team to genuinely help customers with their selection by offering solutions to their needs.
To encourage and train your team to provide fast and reliable serviceto customers.
Answering telephone questions/queries politely, clearly and efficiently.
Constantly improving our standards by increasing our score in the annual inspection from the GCA
Stock Control

To assist in taking prompt action on slow moving stock
To regard stock as an investment -which needs to turn back into cash as quickly as possible
To manage record, monitor and control all wastage
To be responsible for all stock investment, making sureand monitoring that the area has the right stock at the right time as required by the customer.
To make sure that all team members buying are monitored and any overstocks that occur need to be dealt with as a matter of urgency.
To ensure that regular price checks are periodically undertaken and monitored and that any reports of errors are rectified as quickly as possible.
To ensure training to all team members so that they are empowered to react and clear slow moving products and administer the appropriate paper work.
To reduce waste to a minimum by: -Quality control -Controlling of buying -Checking deliveries against delivery notes -Controlling of theft -Controlling of wastage
To ensure product is well signed, showing benefits to the customer along with the price.
To inspect the Planteriadaily, identifying any fall off standards and implementing any corrective action. Ensure that the team take responsibility for this in your absence.
To visit other Garden Centres on a regular basis to review their marketing techniques and pricing. See if they have any good ideas worth implementing ourselves.

To ensure that the staff rota is organised in such a manner that the key periods over lunches, breaks, holidays and days off are sufficiently covered so that the Planteriais as fully manned as is possible at all times
To provide sufficient team members to ensure the best service for our customers.
To be responsible for the recruitment of all new team members to include temporary and permanent appointments.
To ensure that all team members are fully conversant with their job, andunderstand the standards we expect of them. To be responsible for the induction and training of all new team members.
To ensure all team members are wearing the correct uniform and name badges at all timesand that the General Manager is aware of any discrepancies or failure to comply with the accepted standard of dress or appearance required by the Company.
To, motivate the team by involvement, empowerment and good communication throughout. Look for pace productivity andcommitment and give praise to individuals and the team.
To arrange weekly team meetings for training and keeping the team informed of current issues.
To organise and participate in meetings with the General Manager and other Managers on a weekly basis, or as required.
Buying and EPOS

- To ensure that you and any team member who buys or orders products buys the correct amounts negotiating either discount or delayed payment of product.

To liaise with the epos office to get information to carry out efficient buying so we carry the correct stock levels at all times. To make sure the epos office has the correct information, in advance, of any orders being delivered.

Display and Merchandising

To ensure that the team achieve high standards throughout the Planteriain the following areas:

Display and merchandising -Cleanliness -Signing
Security

To ensure the team maintain good customer flow and routes throughout the department with eachproduct clearly identified and pathways clear of obstructions which might impede disabled or wheelchair access.
To ensure the team provide customers with the maximum amount of ideas throughout the department using product display and signage.
To plan inadvanceseasonal layout planning of the Planteria.
Health and Safety

To review with the Operations Director the system for Risk Assessment for the Planteriaand implement any updating or changes as required in liaison with the team members.
To review any training requirements regarding Health and Safety issues that my affect the team
To ensure that team members are fully aware of yours and their responsibilities as regards to potential hazards, which might result in legal actions being undertaken by a third party against the Company.
To ensure that no team members undertakes any task which is deemed to be outside of their remit?
To ensure that whenever any maintenance work is being undertaken that warning signs are put up and the area cordoned off to prevent the public gaining access.
To review on an annual basis with your team the current systems available for dealing with emergency procedures like Fire and Fire Practice.
Housekeeping

To ensure that the team are completing the appropriate paper work as regards delivery notes, shortages and stock damaged.
To ensure that any paper work is brought to the officer regularly.
To assist & ensure all cleaning duties are regularly attended to
Any area or rubbish which presents a Health and Safety hazard should be quickly removed, notifying management
Take a pro-active part in in-store marketing initiatives using knowledge of local Garden Centres
Assist in goods receiving operations to ensureadequate checks on quantity & quality
Ensure correct sales floor pricing
Give feedback on buying trends
As and when requested, conduct regular 'on sale' checks to identify correct prices etc. and take required action
Assist with the goods in of product.
