Power BI Data Analyst - Remote to 50k
There is massive digital transformation happening in the education sector and data is at the very heart of it. Connecting students, teachers and parents in new and exciting ways is what this organisation is all about. Viewing insights, performance reporting though beautiful data visualisations is a game changer and Power BI and this role will be right at the centre of the education data revolution.
Working within a product development environment, you will join the insights team and design data solutions, reporting and visualisations in line with specifications. You'll draw from your experience of Power BI to deliver and take the lead on the development of dashboards, datasets, workspaces, reporting etc.
Key Responsibilities:
Create and facilitate efficient and value for money technical solutions meeting the reporting needs of the business
Supporting the data team's ownership of the Power BI platform, by building and maintaining, workspaces, dashboards, datasets and reports as required by the business
Elicit the underlying data and process issues that need to be understood and documented for accurate reporting. Use a variety of analytical techniques to discover any challenges with the data/processes documenting all findings within User Stories in DevOps.
Lead workshops to engage multiple technical and educational stakeholders to identify reporting and visualisation specifications.
Motivate and facilitate a forward thinking and collaborative approach to work giving all members the chance to contribute to the future of the data platform.
Able to identify the difference between user needs for a data set and user needs for a report.
Support the design and delivery of Business Intelligence reporting and analysis projects, following agreed design methodologies (SDLC), whilst acting as a liaison with the business to meet their stakeholder objectives, identify efficiencies and keep up to date with the latest developments and latest trends in Business Intelligence.
Ensure any need, with impact to critical business reports/data sets are clearly documented for critical business items, whilst also attaining stakeholder understanding and approval.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience:
1-3 three years experience working at an advanced level with Power BI
Experience of data migrations, manipulation, transfer and/or more formal ETL processes
Scripting with R, generating complex queries with DAX
Experience with Python scripting - advantageous
Proven experience of applying analytical skills to complex technical and business processes and recommend solutions - focusing on successful delivery of outcomes.
Experience in delivering IT based projects using a structured methodology, and actively involved in projects through the full lifecycle from requirements gathering to implementation and training.
Excellent communication, influencing and persuading skills at all levels - open, honest and inclusive communication style.
Ability to adapt to a continually changing environment with a significant program of business
Technical Skills:
Building Power BI datasets from specific data sources (dataflows, Power Query M, and DAX)
Utilising Power BI Apps to present dashboards and reports
Data Modeling Skills
Standardising reports across a business
Gathering and interpreting stakeholder requirements
Desirable Skills
SQL, Azure (Desirable)
Experience with data warehousing and data modeling
Familiarity with data architecture concepts and a good grasp of what a good architecture looks like
Previous experience working with universities, schools, or other educational departments
