Job Profile SummaryThe Lead Planning Engineer will be a significant role within the growing UK Offshore Wind Program, which currently comprises the Mona and Morgan windfarms in the Irish Sea, as well as Morven in the North Sea. These offshore wind developments will play a material part in supporting the UK Government's target of producing sufficient offshore wind energy to power every UK home by the end of this decade.Bp have formed a 50/50 JV partnership with Hamburg based EnBW in delivery of the programme.
Job AdvertAbout the role:The Lead Planning Engineer reports to the Project Controls Manager, and is responsible for managing a team of planning professionals to deliver high quality project planning and reporting services and ensure the integrity and effectiveness of the various planning services. The incumbent will be responsible for delivery of planning strategy and procedures, implementing continuous improvement plans and managing conformance to internal and external requirements and stakeholders.Key Accountabilities:
  • Development and implementation of an effective and efficient project planning system for the UK Offshore Wind programme.
  • Leading the development of processes, procedures, systems and tools in support of the planning system
  • Leading a team of planners / schedulers across both bp and EnbW
  • Ensuring delivery of high quality plans / schedules that integrate the entire scope of the project, spanning all workstreams, including Project Management, Engineering, Consenting, Stakeholder management, HSSE, Procurement, Legal etc
  • Delivery of high quality schedule delivery performance management information
  • Providing project leaders with high quality schedule insights to facilitate decision making processes
  • Working with project leaders and workstream leaders in analysis of opportunities to accelerate project schedules, and in proposing appropriate courses of action.
  • Ensuring delivery of various levels of project schedules, including L0 programme overview schedules, L1 project schedules, project master control schedules, owners plans, programme assurance / verification schedules etc
  • Management of schedule contingency
  • Responsible for ensuring Planning discipline integration with other key project processes, such as Risk Management and Management of Change
  • Support project Cost & Schedule reviews through development of schedule risk analysis models, ensuring alignment with project risk registers
  • Develop and maintain project schedule basis and assumption documents including appropriate benchmarking information
  • Ensuring close cooperation of project planners with the cost engineers to ensure cost phasing aligns to project schedules
  • Responsible for ensuring project plans are clearly communicated to workstream / workpackage teams, including views on critical path etc
  • Ensuring appropriate progress measurement and reporting methodologies are documented and being utilised across the projects
  • Development of the interface with Workstreams to review and challenge schedules, and to implement best practice processes for schedule development, with a focus on simplification and efficient working.
  • Assist in the preparation of other programme documentation, such as Project Coordination Procedures etc.
  • Ensure contractors planning systems are set up appropriately to facilitate reporting in alignment with project WBS.
About you:Essential Education:
  • Bachelor's / Masters Degree in Engineering, Project Controls, Project Management or other relevant degree
Essential Experience:
  • 10+ years experience leading planning teams on multi-disciplinary large scale offshore projects
  • Solid, broad-based project experience in the concept development, selection, design and/or construction phases of projects with an excellent track record of delivery.
  • Ability to interface, influence, and work effectively with members of Project Leadership.
  • Bias for simplification and efficiency with focus on fit-for-purpose deliverables that meet the needs of the business.
  • Strong ability to build partnerships, actively engage and respect contributions of others.
  • Able to create a performance culture that is designed to deliver success
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and behaviours
  • Ability to produce good quality written reports and summary presentations - able to communicate clarity from complexity
Desirable Experience:
  • Project Management Professional / Association of Project Management (APM) accredited
  • Experience in Offshore Wind projects
