Senior Legal Counsel - Europe

Contract Type: Full-time

The primary tasks of the Senior Legal Counsel - Europe will be to focus on drafting, reviewing, and assisting in the management of a variety of sales and service agreements related to the company's Career Transition, Talent Development & Coaching business, and other supplier contracts relevant to the operations of the company.

In this role, there will be a strong focus on assisting the UK & Ireland business and local management teams on a variety of day-to-day operational issues. Key stakeholder relationships will include aiding the UK & Ireland CEO, Operations Director and Finance Director on a number of operational matters, commercial governance, and compliance activities.

The Senior Legal Counsel - Europe will also liaise with and keep the LHH global legal team (based in the USA) informed of relevant legal matters and become involved in other global legal projects, including data protection, general corporate, compliance and governance, and employment law matters.

  • Reports directly to the Legal Director - Europe who is based in London

In this role you can expect to:

Key Accountabilities


  • A major priority is to be responsive and to embrace agile ways of working to fully support the business goals

  • Contract Preparation: Review and assist business developers, sales leaders, and corporate management in the negotiation of client contracts, technology agreements, licenses, and other contracts relevant to the business, and provide advice to internal clients accountable for such agreements. Contracts include local, regional, and global service agreements for the provision of career related services such as outplacement and talent development (coaching, change management, career services web portals, etc.), and supplier agreements.

  • Contract Templates: Make adjustments as necessary to current templates to reflect any changes in internal process, corporate policies or procedures, laws or regulations, or other matters that would require modification of LHH's standard agreement terms

  • Coordinate the process of completing contracts in a timely manner in accordance with the project's schedule, owning it from start to finish

  • Day-to-day support and management of LHH's UK & Ireland Corporate Secretary to enable timely compliance and fulfilment of company secretarial obligations

  • Data Protection: Assist in the implementation of organizational information privacy policies and procedures in coordination with the LHH global legal team and IT department. Liaise with Information Security and Data Protect departments in all matters relating to personal data and information security.

  • Review and interpret laws and regulations to become fully knowledgeable about laws and regulations applicable to LHH, including the company's capabilities and constraints

  • Review and help implement and enforce company and group policies and procedures to ensure compliance and with a view to risk reduction and productivity improvements

  • Assist and take responsibility in other duties and special projects as requested by the Legal Director - Europe and LHH Europe leadership team

  • Advise the Legal Director - Europe, and other leadership, relative to legal considerations inherent in a variety of legal matters, in order to ensure that business decisions are made with full knowledge of applicable legal considerations and potential risks



What you'll bring to LHH


  • Between 5-8 years of post-qualification legal experience (with a minimum of 4 years of in-house legal background preferred), including background in contract negotiation and with complex global agreements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of UK and European privacy and data protection legislation

  • Demonstrated know-how closing large, sensitive contracts within aggressive timelines

  • Service industry background is a plus

  • Strong business focus and comprehension, along with strong project management skills and a process development background

  • Ability and skill to work well with others, demonstrate performance on team projects, and work with cross functional teams and teams in other geographic locales

  • Self-starter to handle assignments, with the ability to adapt as needed, be pragmatic and operate with confidence with minimal supervision

  • Ability to communicate simply but effectively at all levels of the organization

  • A naturally proactive professional who seeks to build strong relationships within the business, is comfortable with executive exposure, and who has a strong dedication and identification with business objectives

  • Confident Legal business partner, reliable, and the ability to work well under pressure, manage challenging situations, including the ability to multi-task, complete projects on time and adjust to changing priorities to always deliver risk based legal solutions

  • High standard of personal and professional integrity, solid judgement and a flexible, but principled, problem-solving approach

  • European language skills desirable

  • Ability to undertake limited travel, as necessary
