Sheq Advisor
SHEQ Advisor (Telecoms) - Cambridge / Field - GBP35,000-GBP40,000 + Van
Role Purpose
The SHEQ Advisor will proactively plan, organise, and manage a comprehensive risk management audit programme which will cover all Sitec clients to ensure safety compliance in the field, site audits and inspections as well rectifying H&S non conformances in line with standards and accreditations, providing safety coaching and guidance and assist the Head of SHEQ with reporting and client updates.
Key Responsibilities
* Monitor the effectiveness of the HSE policy, recommend changes and ensure practices which are potentially hazardous are brought to managements attention.
* Continually maintain, develop and improve safety and environmental standards.
* Work closely with all departments in developing an engaged workforce putting H&S first.
* Support the business and effectively communicate the measuring and monitoring performance against the site HS&E KPIs.
* Promote a positive health and safety culture & ensure employees and other workers comply with safety legislation, ensuring policies and practices are adopted and adhered to
* Keep abreast of any changes or updates to relevant legislation and industry guidance/best practice.
* Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly maintained. Where defects are identified, taking action to resolve these promptly either by corrective action yourself or ensuring the defect is reported, monitored and corrected within set timeframes
* Carry out Tool box talks and onsite coaching and guidance
* Assist in incident investigations. Record incidents and accidents and help produce statistics for Head of HSEQ
* Act as first response for rectifying field based issues in line with standards and accreditations
* Carry out risk assessment and consider how risks can be reduced
* Outline Safety Operating Procedures and Safe Systems of Work which identify and take in to account all relevant hazards
* Ensuring working practices are safe and comply with legislation, flagging immediate concerns to Head of SHEQ and Head of Operations/Programme Managers & Directors
* Help prepare health and safety strategies and develop internal policies
* Lead in-house training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks
* Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all HSE legislation
* Attend IOSH seminars and read professional journals to keep abreast of changes
* Help produce management reports, newsletters and bulletins where appropriate
* Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, asbestos, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.

Required Experience
Essential:
Previous HSE advisor or consulting experience
Previous experience with utilities or construction
Working at height and use of plant and machinery
Delivering Tool box talks and onsite coaching and guidance
Knowledge of H&S legislation and regulations
Desirable:
Experience with H&S tracking systems and IT
Previous experience within telecoms especially the fibre sector
Essential:
GCSE's or equivalent (must include English and Maths)
NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent
TechIOSH
Desirable:
PAT Testing qualification
Formal Ladder Inspection
PPE Inspection
Fire stop accreditation
Asbestos certificate
GradIOSH/CMIOSH
NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
Fire Extinguisher training & Commissioning
