We are looking for a Digital Night Editor to live and breathe the Echo website, making decisions at key times when some of our biggest audiences are eager for engaging content.

This role is based in our Liverpool Hub, we are therefore open to candidates based in and around Liverpool.


Key Responsibilities

What will the role involve?

  • Maintain a strong online presence across social media platforms
  • Build audience engagement through excellent online storytelling abilities
  • Provide direction to fellow journalists
  • Create and present engaging content based on search and social media trends and audience behaviour - often when time is of the essence
  • Run and direct live blogs to our engaged audience
  • Looking for opportunities to grow our audience
  • Owning the night time operation of our brand
  • Helping to deliver our customer value strategy to our audience
  • Shifts start at 4pm each day, ready to work across all editorial departments

The Ideal Candidate

Who are we looking for?

  • NCTJ or equivalent journalism degree and knowledge of media law (In special circumstances, applicants who do not have the described qualification but have an exceptional track record in digital publishing may be considered)
  • You'll demonstrate initiative and be a self-starter
  • You have experience in content management systems and analytics
  • You're a natural born leader, have an impeccable news sense
  • You have a clear idea of what our audience wants and when they want it
  • You're a big personality, not afraid to share your opinion
  • You thrive overseeing breaking news at as a fast pace
  • You're creative and ready to make your mark
