Ford & Stanley - The Engineering Recruitment Experts are working with a leading product certification business to bring in a recent Science Graduate to develop them into a Quality & Calibration Engineer

The Opportunity - My client is the world leader in product certification and has two testing facilities in the UK that house specialist engineering rigs to perform testing to industry standards.

They are looking for a science graduate with experience in laboratory-based equipment and the standards that govern how they work or an experienced calibration technician who wants to work in the state of the art gas and electrical/electronic testing facility.

You will be developed to provide robust calibration and quality control service essential for maintaining the consistent availability of calibrated and serviceable measuring equipment coincident with business needs to ensure accuracy in the testing performed.

You will provide a key point of contact for both internal and Supplier related activities, focussing on driving quality-related issues to satisfactory and timely resolution. Alongside this, the role will be instrumental in new product introductions and product/process improvements.

Role and Responsibilities:

Responsibility for coordinating routine calibration of test lab instruments (collection from labs, obtaining quotes, working with calibration suppliers, ensuring quality of work on receipt etc) ensuring UKAS or equivalent level of traceability.
Verifying external and internal calibration results and deciding if calibration labels can be issued
Managing and prioritising calibration programme to achieve defined turnaround times and deadlines to enable the smooth running of the Labs
Processing faulty equipment reports from internal labs, and organising resolution, either through internal or external resources. Working with suppliers to deliver timely resolution.
Processing new equipment requests from internal labs, ensuring proposed specifications meet requirements of testing standards, obtaining quotes, organising calibration as required, driving through to release of new equipment into labs
Preparing or advising on the preparation of uncertainty budgets
Preparing calibration schedules and programmes for individual items of, particularly new, equipment
Ensure work instructions and procedures are up to date and reflect current practices within the Labs.
Occasional performing of internal calibration of instruments, where an economical external solution is not available.
Perform verifications of test rigs and instruments against requirements defined in standards (e.g. BS EN standards)
The Candidate:

Essential Skills

Science degree or HNC/HND
Strong communications skills - able to communicate with internal and external stakeholders
Comfortable with independent working and managing their own time.
Experienced with using lab equipment or testing equipment.
