Skills Knowledge and Expertise
As a well-rounded Test Automation Engineer your Skills and Experiences likely include:
- Understand the Software development life cycle and the need for manual testing.
- Have a background in manual and automated test techniques.
- Have experience using automation tools such as Selenium Webdriver, Cypress, Mocha/Jest, Postman, etc
- Possess a strong background in writing automated functional and integration tests in JavaScript, .NET SpecFlow(BDD) or other popular languages.
- Have experience working with and testing REST APIs using Postman and API test frameworks using rest client, HttpClient.
- Experience defining non-functional tests cases using standard testing techniques.
- Experience working in an agile environment using frameworks such as Scrum & Kanban, with a focus on fast feedback and building quality in from the outset.
- Understand where and when automation testing fits into the SDLC.
- Experience using tools such as Jira or Zephyr are desirable.
- Knowledge of Telephony systems and AWS advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
Day-to-day, you will: Be working in a cross-functional engineering squad on business-critical, customer-facing products. They are an organisation that has recently embraced the shift-left approach. As such the successful applicant will be an individual who will help with the delivery of automation testing, creating test plans to ensure full coverage in alignment with organisation best practices.
As they have only recently begun their automated QA journey, there will be an expectation for the successful candidate to also carry out manual exploratory testing where needed.
You will be part of a squad that will own and contribute to all test activities surrounding automation testing; including CI/CD, supporting a shift-left mentality using TDD/BDD, conducting regular functional and regression testing and working with the product manager to ensure smooth and regular releases. This role requires frequent communication with stakeholders, so confident and concise communication is necessary to succeed.
You will be an advocate for quality in all aspects of the SDLC. This includes active participation in defining the acceptance criteria for new features and ensuring the high standards set by the team are met (eg, Definition of Done). You will be responsible for prioritising your work based on the sprint goals and will work collaboratively with your squad to achieve them. Transparency of work and fast feedback are essential.
