The purpose of the Contact Supervisor role is to provide safe and meaningful supervised contact for children with their parents, family members or carers. This service is for children who are in the care of the Local Authority. The children could be aged from birth all the way up to teenagers with the majority of contacts being for younger children.

A typical day could be preparing for contact by reading recent information and updates about the family then phoning a school to let them know they are collecting a child for contact. Once at the venue, the Contact Supervisor would observe the contact whilst taking notes. Once contact is complete, the child is returned to their placement. The Contact Supervisor would then complete a report from which could, in future, be used for court purposes.

Role Responsibilities:
To supervise allocated contacts, provide transport to and from contact venues, maintaining child safety at all times and to intervene in unsafe contact.

Supervisors should own a reliable car and be available to drive wherever required.

Supervisors observe contact between family members and take notes which would later be typed up as a report for Social Workers.

Contact Supervisors sometimes have to manage difficult and challenging situations and you may be required to stop contact if it is not in the child's best interest to continue, this should be in a manner that is not detrimental to the child.

Supervisors should develop working relationships with parents, social workers, foster carers and children.

Supervisors are expected to record within agreed timescales and legal requirements.

Supervisors are to have awareness at all time of issues of safeguarding and to report issues of concern to the Contact Co-ordinator immediately.
