Are you passionate about delivering outstanding services for customers? Could you strive to improve the quality of life of customers? Do you like to collaborate with outside agencies to keep up to date on changing welfare legislation? If this sounds like you then this could be the perfect role for you.
Here at Johnnie Johnson Housing, we’re looking to recruit to the role of Community Welfare Officerto join our Customer and Neighbourhoods Team.
As our Community Welfare Officer you’ll provide a highly visible community-based service travelling across Yorkshire, Derbyshire and the North East to engage with customers across all tenures whilst also taking a digital first approach to service delivery. You will troubleshoot complex customer cases and arrears cases providing advice, guidance and assistance on income maximisation, statutory benefits and improve financial wellbeing to reduce the risk of rent arrears and help sustain tenancies.
With empathy and understanding of the financial challenges facing both vulnerable customers and housing providers in the current climate, you’ll deliver a responsive and sensitive service to those who are at risk and make referrals to relevant agencies. You’ll respond to customer queries and feedback in a timely manner and advocate and negotiate with relevant statutory authorities on cases up to and including representation at First Tier Tribunal. An understanding of Universal Credit would be preferable.
So now you’ve heard a bit about the role, let us tell you a bit about the team! It’s important to know who you might be working with, right?
Our Team
Our team is a really lovely (if we don’t mind saying so ourselves!). We’re led by our Income Lead and you will work closely with our Community Housing Officers across the region. As well as providing support to the organisation, we support each other too. We work hard but we also like to have fun!
About You
We’re looking for someone who has previous experience in a similar role and of working in a dispersed team and enjoy using new technology. You’ll be responsive to the individual needs of customers and demonstrate knowledge of welfare benefits, personal budgets and social prescribing. A great communicator, putting customers at the heart of everything you do, you’ll like having direct contact with customers and love having responsibility. You’ll be confident when it comes to presenting information to Tribunals and enjoy working at pace with colleagues across the business. You should be a car user and car user allowance is included in the salary.
And the benefits of working for us?
We’ve adopted a completely agile way of working meaning you can work from home too. As long as our residents and customers are put first, we’ll also give you a degree of flexibility using our ‘My Lifestyle’ guidelines, meaning you can attend the important things in life. So, whether you’ve got a gym class you’d love to attend, your child’s school play or maybe it’s just that you’ve got a new fridge being delivered, we will work with you to be flexible!
We also offer a fantastic holiday allowance of 33 days per annum (including statutory holidays) which rises to 38 days after 5 years’ service (pro-rata for fixed term contracts). We can offer you a 35-hour working week, an enhanced 5% employer contribution pension scheme and a recognition scheme with both financial and non-financial rewards such as gift vouchers, early finishes or even a later start! There’s loads more fantastic benefits too – you can find out more about these on our careers site!
