Design Technical Lead - Rigs,

Derby or hybrid

We are looking for a technical lead in the Experimental Engineering Rig Test Vehicle Engineering team to technically manage and oversee rig test physical verification projects through all lifecycle phases.

The Rig Test Vehicle Engineering team manage rig test projects across Civil and Defence Aerospace, supporting aero-engine programmes at all stages of the lifecycle. This includes R&T and future technology developments such as the UltraFan?? programme, as well as product improvements or investigations of in-service arisings on existing programmes such as the Trent XWB or Trent 1000. The projects themselves vary significantly in scope and subject, from component fatigue testing, to ballistic and impact testing, to large spinning tests for fan blade containment and integrity, amongst others.

The successful candidate will have the confidence and ability to work as part of a team and take the lead on technical projects. The role will be based in Derby, but the global nature of the business requires the flexibility to support the Civil Aerospace global business model with the potential requirement for short-term assignments around the globe.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Technically manage and oversee rig test vehicle solutions developed by external suppliers in line with Rolls-Royce design processes

  • Undertake independent audits of other rig test vehicle designs at formal reviews

  • Perform quick design solutions where a rapid response is required

  • Complete formal product definition checking and approval

Key Experience, Qualifications:

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline

  • Demonstrated ability, direct experience and technical self-sufficiency in the rig test engineering discipline

  • Knowledge of design engineering and product definition, preferably with the ability to generate product designs and definition to design standards

  • Demonstrated understanding of the effect that rig test vehicle designs have on the financial implications, quality, and delivery of customer requirements

  • Pro-active customer focus displaying a clear understanding of their individual needs

  • Demonstrate personal drive and highly developed problem-solving skills

  • Highly developed interpersonal and presentation skills. Ambassador for subject and company
