AstraZeneca is a global, *science-led, patient-focused biopharmaceutical company *that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription medicines for some of the world's most serious disease. But we're more than one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies.
Now is the time to be part of accelerating AstraZeneca's growth and feel your contribution. We unite our technologies, tools and platforms with our collective expertise to drive our transformational journey forward. It means we are able to better interpret data and make better data decisions
Sustainable, FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable & Reusable) data is the lifeblood of AstraZeneca as a science-led, pure-play pharmaceutical company and critical for the delivery of the AstraZeneca corporate strategy, in which Data, AI and Digital is a foundational value driver for Innovative Science and a potential corporate differentiator.

Other data types will be added in due course. We will be defining and applying metadata for each of these data types. The programme will provide data science environments with appropriate tooling and access to data for data scientists to use to perform analysis on the data. We are also building cross data type query interfaces, to enable scientists to find and integrate data within and across data types. The environments will be predominantly cloud based and subject to governance and tracking of data.
*Main duties and responsibilities*
For the last five years AZ, has been in the fore front of enabling reuse of data to a large set of customers. Core to doing this is the consents and our commitment to the patient's wishes for how we use the data. The way AZ has worked has helped influence the best practice for use of data across the pharma industry. The role-holder will trailblaze expanding the understanding and management of consent from the study level to individual patient level, to maximise the value of data generated under patient consent.
We are seeking individuals who can define and articulate a vision for products delivered and implemented for the Therapy Areas (TA) cross R&D. The delivery is done via the TA Impact initiatives that connect requirements cross TA into cross R&D deliverables. Work is done in close collaboration with RD and Enterprise IT, Data Science and AI and the wider R&D organisation. The role will be based in Data Science and AI, which is part of AZ R&D and will work in close interaction with the Data Office to cover the AI, ethics, governance and use of data perspectives. The role will provide strong leadership to promote best practices in managing policy through embedding key privacy principles on the handling of data throughout the lifecycle of our data and how this is implemented in our systems.
The Ethical and Legal store will be a product holding the ethical and legal information about a study and a patient to ensure data is used in a correct way. As data is collected in many systems, it will be key to find a way of integrating and sharing the ethical and legal status cross-system to always reflect the right status of a patient and our products. With the GDPR requirements we are obligated to manage the GDPR rights, like the 'Right to be forgotten' and to 'Know how data has been used' after it is collected. This is in alignment with our AZ value of putting our patients first.
Example of Products may include Data management and standard pipelines for data types listed above, provision of data science environments, Data Catalogue Management, Master Data /Reference Data Management, cross data querying tools and processes
