The Clinical School Computing Service (CSCS) is specialist division of 40 people. We are looking to recruit a Senior Infrastructure Engineer who is interested in systems, security and automation. You'll design, build, and maintain server and storage systems utilising on-premise and cloud infrastructure for the benefit of administrative staff and research scientists across the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. You will manage applications and platforms to ensure they are secure, resilient and meet service demand using ITIL-based processes such as change management, responding to requests, incidents and problems.
We are a cross-functional team that likes to deliver good solutions that meet user needs in a fast, agile environment. We encourage staff to develop new systems and services, as well as improve existing ones. Examples of upcoming work includes; automated provisioning, adoption of hybrid infrastructure and enhanced remote access and secure data hosting platforms - all opportunities for innovation.
Applicants are expected to hold a degree in a relevant subject, or demonstrable skills and track record of supporting, managing and maintaining enterprise IT systems.
We are looking for an Infrastructure Engineer who is an experienced System Administrator and has also planned and implemented infrastructure.
You must be able to work confidently in the following three areas:
- Windows Enterprise Server (AD, DFS, DNS, GP, DHCP)
- VMWare vSphere (or other Type-1, native or bare-metal hypervisor)
- NetApp Unified Storage Architecture (or equivalent SAN system)
And it is advantageous to have experience of working with any of the following:
- Citrix Presentation Server
- Microsoft Exchange
- Linux System Administration (Deb or RPM based)
- Azure or AWS
- Scripting tasks in Windows Server using PowerShell, Python or Bash
- Automation or Orchestration (Ansible, Puppet, Foreman, Terraform)
We also use the following systems, knowledge of which would be useful: Office 365, WhatsUp Gold, Elastic Stack, SQL Server 2012+, Network Layer 2/3, 802.1x, Kemp or FortiOS
You will be part of a collaborative team of 8 system/storage and network engineers. CSCS values enthusiasm and interest in working as part of a positive, multi-functional team and this will be a key part of this role.
