We are POW Nottingham and have supported sex workers, and those at risk of exploitation for over 30 years, developing a significant understanding of this communities needs and the issues they face. We were originally founded by those with experience of sex work and continue to be informed and shaped by the views of sex workers, ensuring that we continue to meet their needs.

We are seeking a Senior Manager to provide strong leadership to our staff team and oversee empathetic, trauma informed service delivery. You'll need to establish effective operational relationships with front-line delivery partners that prioritises the needs of service users. Responsible for implementing robust systems and processes being accountable for the performance of the staff team and providing guidance, advice, coaching and performance management.

Job Purpose

Working on behalf of POW and across our projects, we are looking for a Senior Manager to lead, manage, supervise and motivate team members and volunteers on a daily basis. On occasions, you will be expected to deputise for the CEO, attending meetings of a strategic nature.

As the Senior Manager, you will be the point of contact for all team members and volunteers, requiring excellent communication skills. You should also be able to act proactively to ensure smooth team operations and effective collaboration. Ultimately, you should lead by setting a good example and engage the team to achieve goals through a nurturing yet resolute approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture, leading team meetings and events.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with our key stakeholders, attending relevant meetings, promoting the work of POW and reporting on progress.
  • Oversee day to day operations, monitoring the team's performance, setting time bound and clear goals and objectives, reporting on metrics.
  • Conduct one to one supervision and line management to discuss performance, training needs and providing on the job mentoring as and when necessary.
  • Collate and write reports in line with our funding requirements, having a clear grasp of budgets, project aims and outcomes.
  • Act as a leader and role model, motivating and mentoring team members and volunteers to reach their full potential.
  • Deputise, where required for the CEO, attending meetings and representing POW at a strategic level.
  • Ensure a safe environment for service users where everyone receives a positive and pro-active welcome and are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Ensure the needs of service users are appropriately responded to by the team.
  • Oversee the work of visiting specialist health workers, e.g. Health Service, Drug Service, etc.
  • Ensure adequate staffing for our core services.
  • Assess any risk to clients, the environment and staff, record and communicate any risks identified using appropriate channels in POW Nottingham's policy and procedures.
  • Risk manage incidents and respond appropriately.
  • Ensure all reports requested are written and delivered to requested timescales as directed by your line manager.

  • To proactively engage individuals from a hard to reach client group to access POW Nottingham's services.
  • To manage and maintain all paper and digital records in line with your work duties, ensuring these are up-to-date, accurate and all outcomes are recorded appropriately.
  • To work in line with policies and procedures relevant to POW Nottingham.
  • To ensure confidentiality at all times.
  • To work within agreed risk management guidelines.
  • To notify your line manager of planned whereabouts, submitting accurate timesheets on a weekly basis and updating your works calendar.
  • To undertake training and development as directed.
  • To work flexibly as required to meet the needs of hard to reach service users.
  • To work on outreach including unsociable hours.
  • Develop warm and trusting relationships with POW Nottingham service users to encourage them to express their needs, views and concerns.
  • To support POW Nottingham services users in meeting their cultural and spiritual needs and in expressing their personal identity.
  • Maintaining professional and appropriate boundaries in all work with staff, volunteers, service users and external professionals.

  • To prepare reports and statistics as requested by the line manager.
  • To prepare for and attend regular supervision with line manager.
  • Be prepared to work unsociable hours and in potentially difficult geographical areas.
  • To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of harm reduction, sexual health, general health and legislative issues pertinent to sex workers.

Legal and Statutory Responsibilities

All staff must be prepared to comply with POW Nottingham's Health and Safety policies and attend relevant statutory training as required.
