My clients based near the borders of Suffolk, Cambridgeshire & Essex are looking for a Development Engineer - Precision Engineering / Fibre Optics.

This role is commutable from Cambridge, Saffron Walden, Royston, Dunmow, Braintree, Haverhill, Newmarket, Bury St. Edmunds.

This organisation designs & manufactures an extensive range of optical fibre based sub-systems with superior hermeticity & optical termination, as well as high efficiency coupling of lases, fibres & detectors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
• Development of cost effective products and supporting manufacturing processes.
• To take the lead in complete product lifecycle, from design & development, on-time transfer of products to production, and including ongoing engineering support for production.
• To ensure products are designed and developed for manufacturability and sustained profitability.
• Interacting with Sales and Marketing on product definition, specifications and costing.
• Participating in or leading design and development activities for new products with other team members.
• Definition of the BOM's for new products and identifying/qualifying suitable suppliers with focus on costs and reliability.
• Process development, prototype manufacturing leveraging the skills of engineering technicians.
• Defining and conducting initial product qualification against appropriate standards.
• Development of process /product metrology and inspection techniques for new products.
• Supporting product transfer to production and assisting with potential issues while in production.
• Provide the Quality department with engineering support on RMA's, vendor evaluation and all quality reports.
• Attend customer and supplier liaison meetings as required.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
Essential:
• Degree in Science or Engineering discipline (or other qualification with equivalent experience).
• Substantial process/product development experience in high tech and mid to high volume manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on with a pragmatic approach and excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and influencing skills.
• Good analytical skills, data analysis and presentation.
• Sound grasp of statistical techniques.
• Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and efficiently.
• Strong team player yet capable of independent and creative thinking.

Desirable:
• Experience with fibre optic products development, manufacturing and testing.
• Experience of reliability testing & quality control.
• Experience of technology transfer and related support documentation.

Your current job title may be development engineer, process engineer, production engineer, manufacturing engineer or similar.

Basic salary to cGBP40k for the right candidate, plus a range of benefits.
