Corporate Health & Safety Advisor | Bedfordshire | GBP32-37K (12-month FTC)
Here in the Corporate Health and Safety Team, we give guidance on occupational health and safety to staff across the council. By keeping our workforce safe and well, we're making sure they can give residents 100%. As a Corporate Health and Safety Advisor, you'll be at the heart of our work, helping our managers and head teachers to minimise risks to their teams. With the chance to make a difference to employees - and the community they serve - you can find your greatness and do something amazing for our region.
As part of a small and supportive team, you'll work as an ambassador, providing expert advice on all kinds of matters including the more traditional areas of accident reporting, DSE, lone working and work from height to COVID-19. With close attention to detail and a pragmatic approach, you'll support the development of high-quality communications and briefings, risk assessments, guidance and action plans. Alongside monitoring council services, you'll have the chance to take a lead within projects and programmes, working closely with key partners like Facilities Management and Information Technology. This isn't just an opportunity to work with departments ranging from schools to social care, waste and transport. You'll also get to be part of a team that's committed, enthusiastic and keen to keep on learning.
To join us, you must hold a minimum of a NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent health and safety qualification). You'll also need a full, valid driving licence and access to your own vehicle, as the role will involve conducting visits across the county. You'll have given health and safety support before, confidently advising staff at all levels across a diverse range of services. Your expertise should cover a broad range of health and safety topics, with experience of conducting audits, inspections and incident investigations.
You'll be a researcher, listener, author and explainer, able to communicate health and safety in a non-technical, comprehensible and compelling way. You'll also be a fantastic people person; with a friendly, consultative approach, you'll inspire staff council-wide to act on your guidance. If this sounds like you and you are organised, IT literate and prepared to support or lead, you could play a big part in keeping our people safe and well
