We are looking for someone with excellent organisational skills to work in our busy Reception and act as the first point of contact for enquiries from members of the public and clients attending for appointments.  You will need diplomacy and tact, to be able to handle difficult callers and be assertive when necessary.  The ability to multi-task and deal with enquiries, even when you are busy, will be beneficial. Experience of working within an advice setting would be an advantage but is not essential.


In accordance with Nottingham Law Centre’s policies and procedures;

  1. To be the first point of contact for all those attending the Law Centre;
  2. To answer and deal appropriately with incoming enquiries and take messages;
  3. To make appointments for clients with Law Centre staff, and maintain the electronic diary;
  4. To record client data;
  5. To deal with Food Bank and other relevant referrals;
  6. To ensure that the reception area and interview rooms are kept tidy and stocked with the relevant paperwork;
  7. To assist with administrative tasks as and when required;
  8. To undertake training relevant to the post;
  9. To take outgoing mail to the Post Office;
  10.  To supervise and support volunteers;
  11. To undertake other duties consistent with providing a quality service to clients of the Law Centre.

Person Specification


  1. Experience of reception work and dealing with the general public;
  2. Good organisation skills and the ability to deal with a demanding and busy reception;
  3. The ability to deal with people in a tactful, respectful and friendly manner and to remain calm under pressure;
  4. The ability to communicate effectively and appropriately, with a wide range of people;
  5. The ability to work using own initiative;
  6. The ability to work flexibly as part of a team;
  7. The ability to supervise and support the Law Centre’s volunteers;
  8. Computer literate;
  9. Commitment to the provision of community services;
  10. Willingness to undertake relevant training.
