A successful and well-established family run business supplying educational supplies to schools is currently looking to recruit a Purchasing Assistant at their Colchester office. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward thinking and ambitious business and is ideally suited to someone looking for a career in procurement and progression within the role.

Please note: This is a 12 month maternity cover contract role, however there may be options to remain with the business once contract comes to an end.

The Role
Reporting to as well as working closely alongside the owners of the business, you would be responsible for the day to day purchasing activities in view of creating and maintaining a seamless supply chain. You would be expected to maintain good relationships with key suppliers and the distribution network to ensure customer service expectations are met. Initially the role will be more admin based but you would be expected to progress within the role and take responsibility for sourcing new suppliers and negotiating prices.

Responsibilities and requirements would include???
- Monitoring stock levels and identify purchasing needs
- Researching potential suppliers, evaluate offers from suppliers and negotiate better prices
- Tracking orders and ensure timely delivery
- Updating internal databases with order details (dates, vendors, quantities, discounts)
- Liaising with office and warehouse staff to ensure a seamless supply chain


The Candidate
An intelligent, well organised and enthusiastic individual, possibly a recent graduate with some commercial experience, looking to develop your skills within a dynamic forward-thinking family run business. A basic understanding of supply chain procedures and purchasing software would be beneficial but is not essential.

You will have excellent organisational skills as well as plenty of initiative and exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal. You will need attention to detail, and the ability to work equally effectively alone and as part of a team. You will be committed to delivering first-rate levels of customer service at all times. A good standard of IT competency is required.

The Purchasing Assistant role may be suitable for you if you have a background working as any of the following: Purchasing Coordinator, Purchasing Administrator, Purchasing Officer, Purchasing Support Officer, Supply Chain Administrator, Procurement Assistant, Procurement Administrator.
