Purpose of Role

This role supports and manages MAL's engagement with governments and related agencies, globally. This essential activity enables McLaren to contribute to the development of future policies impacting products, skills, supply chain, infrastructure developments, barriers to trade and business competitiveness. The Government Affairs Manager role ensures that McLaren can contribute to the development of government policies, funding and regulations, and proposes the overall direction and strategic initiatives to support McLaren's position with governments. This is key to timely capture new regulatory initiatives and legislative changes together with the public and private investments that they drive, which often result in commercial opportunities.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Coordinate internal team of experts to monitor policy making, legislative and regulative activities of central and local governments, and recommend solutions to the management.
  • Quantify the impacts of key regulatory issues and changes related to development, manufacture, sale, and post approval surveillance of McLaren Automotive's products.
  • Prepare, manage and communicate McLaren Automotive's position regarding new policies.
  • Implement engagement strategies in order to maximise the effectiveness of the company's input into the policymaking process.
  • Coordinate the implementation of new internal procedures, documentation, guidelines and standards, necessary to meet future requirements.
  • Identify, propose and pursue opportunities related to public funds and process improvements resulting from government initiatives, and define project costs in support of grant applications.
  • Liaise with funding organizations to define scope of the funds, prepare bids and address all related inquiries and issues.
  • Manage effective involvement of trade associations, dealers and other appropriate third-parties in the dialogue with government representatives.
  • Coordinate and support interactions between the company and relevant authorities, support meetings between senior management and government officials, business negotiations, and government seminars and events. Prepare related documents and reports materials as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Programme management and planning.
  • Economic analysis for estimating the financial impacts of policies on all parties involved, including MAL, regulators and industry partners.
  • Lobbying through the development of position papers, and compelling international benchmarks.
  • Stakeholder engagement including industry-group participation to establish partnerships across industry and government.
  • Bid management and consortia building for collaborative projects.
  • Understanding of political decision-making process.
  • Understanding of business model of low volume automotive companies.
