To maintain and repair the Company's vehicles to a safe and roadworthy condition, employing such skills and knowledge as may be required with due regard to current employment and health and safety legislation. Test vehicles and diagnose faults.
Observe, recognise and report on vehicle component defects or symptoms of impending failure.
Service, adjust and repair vehicles or components using the necessary equipment and tools in a proper and safe manner. Examine vehicles completely and report orally and/or in writing upon the condition, roadworthiness and safety.
Assess and cost repairs (in certain cases). Train/mentor apprentices and new recruits.
Record all work done and time taken on each job in the paperwork form required.
Attend vehicle breakdowns/accidents etc. for Stagecoach North East or any other organisation when necessary as and when requested by management. In addition, breakdowns/accidents should be attended in accordance with any private operator be they PSV/Commercial Vehicle undertakings or private cars for which Stagecoach North East have a Repair/Service contract.
On the basis that a vehicle has been reported to be defective by an employee, a Fitter is expected to undertake repairs on a vehicle which may be of another discipline, i.e. a small body and electrical repair, which Management consider are within his/her capabilities i.e., replace broken wing mirrors, replace light bulbs etc.
If vehicles are defective in the morning or evening period outside normal working hours or at weekends every effort should be made b y the Fitter to repair the vehicle/vehicles and make it available for service.
If a breakdown occurs near the end of a Fitter's shift then he/she would be expected to attend the breakdown/accident although it may take him/her over his/her normal finishing time.
In addition to the foregoing the post holder will be expected to carry out any additional duties as directed by Supervisors/management which are deemed to be within the post holder's capabilities
