Come and join the team at RACE, (Remote Applications in Challenging Environments). We design Remote Handling equipment for fusion and non-fusion applications in challenging environments according to established project methodology
RACE is part of UK Atomic Energy Authority, and together they are working help shape the future of the worlds energy playing a part in our carbon-free energy future.
In your role you'll be involved in the Supporting RACE projects with software engineering expertise, producing software for robotic remote handling and related systems, and working on the design and execution of advanced research projects.
In your role you will be accountable for:
* Deliver the specification, design, implementation, and testing of 3D VR and simulation software using C++ and Unreal
* Interfacing and integrating software components
* Working with users to establish needs and priorities
* Support and provide technical leadership to other engineers and managers with application issues.
* Acting as key resource on projects of moderate scale and/or complexity; will make decisions on how to resolve issues and sign off the work of others.

You'll need:
* Degree in Software Engineering, computer science, or technical subject or equivalent knowledge and experience.
* Industry experience working in software engineering or related field.
* Strong programming capability to develop working, understandable software in C++
* Experience with virtual reality, game, or 3D environment application development (e.g. Unity, Unreal Engine)
* A strong understanding of software engineering techniques and design principles including lifecycle, version control (Git, SVN etc..), documentation.
* Experience with good development practices throughout the software development lifecycle such as version control and testing
* Good interpersonal and communication skills, and a proven ability to lead and function as part of a team. Strong ability to apply design principles such as Object-Oriented Design
* Appetite and ability to learn and apply new technologies
