Job description:

WHAT TO EXPECT

This opportunity is within the Chassis and Motion Control systems team in Body/Chassis Engineering Department. This team develops control systems and delivers software for existing and future Chassis, Powertrain, Electrical and ADAS technologies, enhancing the driving experience with technology.
The role is to lead the continued development of the in-house Rear Wheel Steering (RWS) control software on a future vehicle programme, covering all aspects of delivery including design, implementation, productionisation and all associated processes in line with the Programme Milestones (PCDS v4) and relevant quality standards (KWS12.13).

This role covers a broad range of responsibilities, the focus of which will develop as the programme progress from its initial design stage through implementation to engineering sign-off and completion. You will lead delivery of model-based software in accordance with industry best practise and internal standards as well as producing the required documentation.

This role offers opportunity to work on the next generation of JLR platforms across a range of vehicle variants, utilising the experience and learning from the recently delivered L460 system (which will also need to be maintained and improved through its lifecycle).

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

As a Lead Software Engineer you will take technical leadership of a number of software/ control engineers, including task planning, delegation of work, reviewing and reporting progress. You will develop and maintain the software team work plan within an agile framework, including planning of sprints, balancing content priorities and resources. You will be leading the model-based software development to meet requirements including architecture definition, functional development and testing, in line with the relevant quality standards (KWS12.13), coding guidelines and technical/ project constraints.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

As a Lead Software Engineer you will be a candidate who has a customer first mindset, who is easy to do business with and makes people feel special, driven to deliver experiences that are personalised, transparent and dependable. You will be able to work effectively with a diverse team across different sites and test locations. You will have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Development or equivalent experience in this area. You will ideally have experience of Agile delivery methods and knowledge of Functional Safety and Cyber Security tools and processes. Ability to utilise new digital tools to support the workflow (eg JIRA, RTC, DOORs) is highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:

Experienced in control software delivery, preferably with a chassis related product.
Competent to create work plans, co-ordinate tasks across team members, track progress, review and report status
An understanding of vehicle network communications, ECUs and electronics

Desirable:

Experience leading software delivery teams
Experienced in Model Based Control System Design
Prior experience of delivering safety critical systems in accordance with a quality management process.
Experience with change/ configuration management
An understanding of Chassis Control systems and their influence on vehicle dynamic behaviour.
