This role is open to remote working meaning you aren't required in the office 5 days a week. We're less about you driving to work and more about us collectively driving down our carbon footprint. We care about how you work rather than where you work; the people rather than the postcode. In support of our people and our greener futures strategies, we'd welcome a conversation with the successful candidate on what remote working may look like for you.

We have high ambitions here at Surrey County Council. Our aim is to be recognised, simply, as outstanding and we are in the midst of organisation wide transformation that will help us get there. The challenge is huge, the opportunities even greater.

We have recently re-designed and re-focused our HR and OD function, with a strong focus on modernising our organisation, culture and workforce - where individuals thrive and are able to perform at their very best. We encourage our colleagues to think differently, share experience and create solutions that truly deliver change. Key to this work is the delivery of our ambitious and challenging Workforce of the Future Strategy.

The principle of 'no-one left behind' is at the core of everything SCC does, and this includes our workforce. The Employee Experience Team of five staff includes a focus on employee wellbeing and workforce equality, diversity and inclusion; working in partnership with our seven Employee Reference Groups to deliver the council's radical EDI action plan. The team was formed in 2019, and has already developed a strong reputation for collaborative working, achieving results and delivering real change for the council's employees.

The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Consultant will work across the council with our Employee Reference Groups and our Directorates' EDI Champions to support the delivery of our EDI initiatives and provide advice and guidance as a subject matter expert.

We are looking for individuals who can develop effective relationships with HR and OD colleagues, operational managers and teams across the organisation and collaboratively identify innovative and sustainable EDI solutions in an agile and changing work environment.

To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:

  • Experience of working within the equality, diversity and inclusion field and of providing expert advice in a complex organisation
  • An ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders to co-produce solutions
  • An ability to analyse complex workforce data and to identify evidence based interventions.

At Surrey, our values and behaviours are just as important as our skills and abilities. They shape who we are as an organisation. Find out more about the values we follow.
