Five Education is working with a primary school in Thornbury and is recruiting a Learning Support Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a Year 3 aged child. The young child has Special Educational Needs and has a diagnosis of Down's Syndrome.
This particular school are looking for candidates who have experience supporting children with SEN. This role is due to start in November and would potentially be long-term.
Responsibilities and duties:
* Supporting the child with their learning and development
* Ensuring that the student can access the curriculum - which may not be at the expected levels for their age
* Helping the child to feel settled and comfortable in school
* Set tasks that challenge and engage the student with a balance of support and independence
* Helping to develop social skills
* Communicating with other staff and ensuring a consistent approach
* Supporting the child in a classroom and possibly around the school
* Assisting the child to remain focused and on task
* Implementing behaviour management tools
* Ensuring the welfare of the student is paramount
Essential Criteria:
* A flexible and resourceful approach
* At least 12 months experience supporting children/ young people in an educational, care or coaching environment
* Ideally, you will have experience supporting children or young people with SEN
* Have a right to work in the UK (a valid visa)
* Two recent child/vulnerable adult based references and relevant DBS/Police checks
* Able to work 8.30 am to 3.15 pm, 2 days per week term time only
* Access to bicycle, car or near main bus routes.

Please note pay rate is for illustration and does include holiday pay.
