Are you passionate about ending bad housing and homelessness in Merseyside? Do you have personal experience of homelessness or other related issues and want to use your experiences to make a difference? Come and join us at Shelter Merseyside as a Trainee on our GROW programme (Getting Real Opportunities of Work). You will receive personalised training and support throughout the programme, as well as support to plan your career after your traineeship ends.

About the role

We are looking for someone who can help us get to know our community. You will be based at the Merseyside hub, and will have the opportunity to work closely with a variety of teams to support people from many different backgrounds who access our services. No day will be the same as every person who accesses our service is unique with different support needs.

As well as supporting the Merseyside Hub with community engagement and support, you will help us to complete a research project to find out more about the issues that affect people in Merseyside. You will be given training, support, and supervision, and will have access to a flexible personal budget to help in your own personal and professional development. Previous trainees have used the personal budget for things like driving lessons, gym memberships, courses and more.

About you
We are looking for people who are passionate about the opportunity to use their own life experiences to help make positive change for others. You’ll also need to be resilient, comfortable in a variety of settings, and able to remain calm in challenging situations where people might be upset or frustrated. Good communication skills and the ability to make people feel heard will also be essential. Basic computer skills, e.g. word processing, the internet and email would be useful, but support can be provided. Above all, we need people with a real desire to develop personally and learn new skills.

We will be holding support sessions at our hub in Anfield to give people practical support and advice on how to create a CV or supporting statement to apply for the role, or to pick up a paper application.
