My client, one of the largest main contractors in the country are looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor. They are one of biggest names in the Civil Engineering and construction sectors and have an excellent reputation within the industry. They have successfully delivered an enviable portfolio of award winning projects that contain some of the most iconic schemes in the country. This role is located in their highways division that provides high quality asset strategy, management and planning consultancy services to a wide range of public and private sector customers

Role Purpose:

* Experienced QS who has a track record in managing all costs relating to MEP building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures;

* They seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality;

* Typically they will be a Chartered Member of the RICS, ICES or CIOB;

* They will have experience of managing a small team of less experienced commercial staff as well as mentoring others on their journey to becoming professionally qualified.

What you'll be doing

As a Senior MEP Quantity Surveyor you will:

Governance:

* Have a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company's GMCEs, BMS and other governance.

Analytical Thinking & Decision Making:

* Order information and systematically checks data;

* Maximises digital opportunities.

Cost Engineering:

* Prepare Activity Schedules, Resource Schedules & analyses tender documents.

Estimating:

* Critically appraises, estimates and negotiates the above with 3rd parties.

Planning:

* Review complex contract programmes such as Time-Location;

* Assist with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes.

Project Management:

* Monitor subcontract activities, measure and respond appropriately;

* Analyse the commercial progress and report to senior project staff;

* Manage commercial aspects with Customer and Stakeholders for their area of responsibility.

Procurement:

* Undertake constructability analyses using construction programmes;

* Prepare procurement programme and helps develop the strategy.

Commercial Management:

* Analyse rates & prices, agreement of variations and or compensation events as required;

* Undertake customer and stakeholder management for their area of responsibility;

* Prepare, submits and negotiates claims when required;

* Prepare Internal reports, commercial progress and financial reconciliation.

Development, Recruitment and Retention:

* Maintain own Personal Development Plan;

* Manage HR/People aspects for direct and indirect reports (PDRs etc);

* Actively supports the development of others incl professional mentoring;

* Produce plans for team to achieve goals / aspirations;

* Support recruitment of lower grades

Who we're looking for

Personal Qualities and Experience:

The following qualifications are essential:

* BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or experience equivalent;

* Pervious MEP experience
