Position: Small Group TutorContract: PermanentClosing date: 12th October 2021 Aurora Redehall School and Caterham Education Centre support children aged 6-11 years who have difficulties with communication and social interaction, typically associated with Asperger's Syndrome and Autism, and challenging behaviour. The schools are linked and share the same Headteacher and Senior Management Team, however each site has its own Assistant Head and team of Teachers and TAs. The Role:Responsible for managing parts of the admission and assessment procedure in relation to home visits and liaison with parents, carers and other agencies who may be working to support a potential student admission, and then report to and advise the SLT.Provide and organise opportunities for work experience for students and providing careers guidance, support student applications, visits and college placements as necessary.Oversee the planning of offsite activities for groups and individuals in Key stage 3,4 & 5.Be responsible for the high quality of teaching and learning of all pupils as designated by the SLT, having responsibility for their progress, welfare and outcomes, in either groups or as individuals. Key Duties:

Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of students with complex needs and SEND, understanding and experience of autism and associated co-morbid conditions and how these can affect learning
  • Evidence of sound knowledge of the national curriculum - Curriculum development and implementation for pupils with SEND
  • To have an up to date knowledge and understanding of the professional duties of teachers and the statutory framework within which teachers work
  • Strong knowledge of the most up to date safeguarding matters and guidance.
  • Knowledge of college courses, traineeships and link courses for students to enrol in.

Skills:

  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Good teaching and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Effective skills in planning, preparation, recording and reviewing students' progress.
  • Good IT skills and understand of how IT can be used to support learning.
  • Ability to remain calm and reflective when working in a challenging environment.
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative - well organised, prioritise effectively and achieve results against deadlines.
  • Ability to engage pupils in positive enabling relationships

Essential Experience:

  • Experience of working in a special school environment and in particular with pupils with autism.

Desirable Experience:

  • Postgraduate diploma in Autism
  • Experience of successfully delivering a differentiated curriculum to pupils with a wide range of needs. P
