3 Month Fixed-Term Contract (potential to be extended)

Salary: circa. GBP38K
Hours: 35 hours per week

The Opportunity

To help us achieve and ensure success throughout this programme of modernisation, we are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Operations Manager to maintain stability and to manage the delivery of our Healthcare Services portfolio to achieve the highest standards and quality, utilising appropriate resources in the most cost-effective way.

This position will be key in providing expert advice and support to ensure operational efficiency is achieved during a very busy period for the Charity.

Healthcare Services within St John Ambulance Cymru has seen unprecedented growth over the past 18 months with closer-than-ever partnering with Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust and the NHS Health Boards as well as the on-going development of both our Falls and Mental Health services. You therefore have the opportunity to take a lead role in something hugely exciting and challenging where no two days are the same.

You will work closely with our Chief Operating Officer to plan, co-ordinate and oversee the day-to-day operational activities whilst creating a climate and culture which enables staff and volunteers to realise their potential within a supporting, safe, continuous improvement and learning environment, conducive to positive levels of health and well-being.

This is a true leadership role where you will be expected to work well under pressure, manage your own workload to achieve objectives whilst demonstrating the highest standards of integrity, leadership and fairness at all times and be able to effectively coach, manage and motivate staff to reach their full potential and uphold our organisational values.

Job Summary

* Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Operations Manager will be responsible for managing the delivery of our Healthcare Services portfolio to achieve the highest standards and quality, utilising appropriate resources in the most cost-effective way.

* The role will provide expert advice and support to maintain stability and operational efficiency during a very busy period for the Charity, whilst working with the Chief Operating Officer to inform and support service development.

* Working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, you will be required to plan, co-ordinate and oversee the day-to-day operational activities whilst creating a climate and culture which enables staff and volunteers to realise their potential within a supportive, safe, continuous improvement and learning environment, conducive to positive levels of health and well-being.

* You will need to promote a "safe environment" based on continuous and helpful feedback, utilising the most appropriate feedback methods where both staff and volunteers feel they have a voice and that their ideas and suggestions will be acted upon in a timely and professional manner.

* The Senior Operational Manager will be expected to work well under pressure, will manage their own workload to achieve objectives whilst demonstrating the highest standards of integrity, leadership and fairness at all times and be able to effectively coach, manage and motivate staff to reach their full potential.

Core Duties:

* Provide operational expertise to ensure the day-to-day operational activity within Healthcare Services runs efficiently.

* Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer to help plan and deliver on key operational objectives, including excellent service delivery, financial targets and winter pressures.

* Provide stability within Healthcare Services by working closely with internal stakeholders as well as regular liaison with local Health Boards and healthcare professionals to understand their service requirements, subsequently building strong working relationships and inspiring new and exciting opportunities.

* Focus on Continuous Improvement (CI) opportunities, suggesting new and better ways of working to achieve maximum operational efficiency.

* Work closely with our existing Operations Manager to manage and develop the rota system in order to maximise resource efficiency in the most cost-effective way.

* Respond to clinical situations in a prompt and effective manner and in conjunction with the clinical team.

* Provide leadership to all staff within Healthcare Services, ensuring consistency in communicating key goals, objectives and strategic direction as set by the Chief Operating Officer.

* Provide high standards of leadership and effective line management including the monitoring and reviewing of workloads, ensuring the satisfaction of service users, accepting accountability for meeting agreed targets set by the Chief Operating Officer.

* Ensure effective communication mechanisms are in place to facilitate sharing and receiving information to maintain a culture of engagement.

* Advise managers on how to approach and deal with conflict resolution, sometimes in partnership with People Services.

* Act as a key point of escalation for any serious operational concerns brought by staff.

What You'll need to be Successful

To achieve the above, we are looking for a talented, confident, and experienced Senior Operations Manager with a proven track record of achieving operational efficiency in high-pressure, high-volume environments.

You will be passionate about continuous improvement, suggesting new and/or better ways of working which are supported by clear evidence. You will be able to articulate these ideas in a positive and supportive way, achieving buy-in at all levels.

You will have excellent communication and engagement skills, with the ability to adapt your style to suit the audience in front of you. You will be committed to achieving excellent employee relations, backed by previous experience of successful conflict resolution, mediation and building high-performing, cohesive teams.
