Legal Counsel (Propositions)
This is a fixed term/secondment (24 month contract) role.
Key Tasks:
- Provide legal and technical advice on Propositional matters to help the Group fulfil its business aims by liaising with all areas of the business as appropriate.
- Provide legal and technical advice to all levels within the Group, which may on occasion include executive level, on propositional matters in a risk aware, solution focused, commercial way as part of the relevant business team minimising the need for external legal advice.
- Ensure that the Group's propositional documentation is of the appropriate standard.
- When appropriate, liaise with external advisers to ensure the provision of legal and technical advice on propositional matters to help the Group fulfil its business aims.
- Assist with team and departmental initiatives including development.
Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively with and relate to all levels of the business up to and including executive and senior management and external people.
- Able to carry out complex research and apply this to business specific requirements.
- Ability to provide advice following analysis of complex situations, and after taking account of multiple sources of information.
- Ability to assist with high value, strategic matters and to plan and prioritise own work.
Knowledge:
- Technical knowledge of the post-A day pensions regime with particular reference to HMRC, DWP and TPR guidelines and practice and to the different types of pension product that are generally available in the market and/or
- Knowledge of other areas of law that impact on the administration of the products that Aegon sells, in particular, ISAs and protection products
- A knowledge of Platforms, trust law and/or how investment funds work would be an advantage but not essential.
Experience:
- Ability to advise and relate to all levels of the business including the executive.
- Propositions experience within the Financial Services industry gained either in-house or in private practice.
Qualifications:
- Qualified as a solicitor or advocate/barrister in one or both of Scotland and England.
