Our client make paint differently, their range of high quality and high performance paints are the result of carefully selecting the right environmentally friendly ingredients and using technologically advanced manufacturing processes and formulations. They have established their position in the UK as a credible, independent eco paint brand with a unique range of products. It sells through a network of paint retailers and merchants, interior design outlets and, increasingly online.

The post and responsibilities:

The company are now looking for a person to take the brand to the next level. To do this they seek an energetic, environmentally aware Commercial Manager with a high degree of business acumen and empathy with the core values of the brand.

There will be a strong focus on results and the postholder will be expected to increase profits and sales volume by identifying and capitalising on business opportunities. This is likely to be through expanding the distribution network, increasing web sales, through partnerships with like-minded companies and organisations and through further raising the profile of the brand in both the eco and designer paint markets.

The postholder will have responsibility for approximately ten staff. Directly managing a Marketing Manager, Warehouse Manager and a small sales and customer support team. They will have the vision and drive to have an impact on the company and its market as well as character and management skills to motivate and get the most out of a dedicated and enthusiastic staff.

The Commercial Manager will be required to provide strategic direction to the marketing team, and then to take the lead role in converting the work of the marketing team into market penetration and sales.

Although accounting and finance services are provided centrally, the postholder will contribute to setting the divisional budget and be responsible for exercising budgetary control. The postholder will also be responsible for purchasing.

Experience and skills required:

* The successful candidate will have experience of managing and promoting sales of products in the home decor market, ideally with a designer paint company.

* Some practical paint knowledge is essential although the postholder will be supported by a technical advisor.

* The successful candidate will have a sound understanding of business finance and economics and be comfortable manipulating Excel spreadsheets.

* As the head of an eco brand, the postholder will be abreast of topical environmental issues, particularly those relevant to decorative coatings, and be at ease discussing these in an engaging and interesting manner with people and bodies with varying topic knowledge.

* The postholder will have a willingness to adapt and accept additional duties as situations arise.

* Although this is a largely office-based post, travel throughout the UK will be required with occasional overnight stays. A full driving licence is essential.
