The Deputy Head of School will support the Head of School for Adult Education and lead on the community learning direct and sub-contracted delivery for South Thames College. Your focus will be on ensuring that current and future students receive a first-class experience that enables them to progress and attain their qualifications and to develop long-lasting learning and employability skills.

You will be responsible for the effective management of the Adult and Community Education delivery including oversight of recruitment, enrolment, retention, achievement and success at all related delivery sites and will liaise with the Head of School in regard to budgeting, performance and partnership management.

As our Deputy Head of School, you will hold relevant professional qualifications and have a thorough understanding of what makes for excellent evidence-based teaching, learning and assessment and how to monitor it effectively. You will have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of national standards and what excellent curriculum provision and outcomes look like, and have a strong understanding of the work of Ofsted and other similar regulators, including awarding bodies.

You will have excellent teaching and/or pastoral skills along with a history of good student outcomes and demonstrate a track record of working with subjects/courses that required improvement. We would also like you to have a proven success of leading and managing change, of effective team work, both as the leader of a team and as part of a team, and be able to identify where intervention is needed, developing a plan to secure improvement and achieving the target outcome.

An in-depth knowledge of how to plan, budget, resource and monitor the curriculum is desirable, as is experience of effective partnership working with other organisations including schools, universities, other colleagues and employers.
