This is an excellent way to begin or continue your career in the Civil Service. There are a large number and a variety of roles available within both DE&S and SDA working on projects in support of the British Armed Forces supporting them in everything from disaster relief and reconstruction to peacekeeping and humanitarian aid projects. You will be part of the Commercial Function of around 1000 people who provide independent professional judgement on commercial and procurement business specialising in procurement; management of commercial risk; and compliance with legislation, including public procurement regulations. You could have a delegation of up to GBP10M with responsibility for the acquisition of specific equipment contracts or supporting senior colleagues in managing more complex requirements.
Whilst you will already be skilled as a Procurement Manager, the career path within the Commercial Function will enable you to develop the full range of commercial skills used in the organisation. With the support of a dedicated Functional Development Officer; an experienced commercial mentor and a large network of experienced peers and colleagues you will be actively encouraged to test and develop new skills in a variety of roles and projects. Responsibilities of the Procurement Manager
DE&S/SDA have opportunities for experienced Procurement Managers to join our team, allowing you to work on a huge variety of vitally important programmes that will ensure that people entrusted with the defence of the nation have the tools and equipment to do the best job they can.
Responsibilities of a Procurement Manager in DE&S/SDA may include:
* Negotiating terms and pricing, placing of contracts and negotiating contract amendments up to a maximum delegation of GBP10M in accordance with the Ministry of Defence policy
* Supporting the development of new Procurement Strategies through analysis of the markets for Defence Equipment and LFE from other Teams in DE&S and using DE&S Acquisition Tools to advertise Defence Procurements to future Suppliers
* Leading on the development of Invitation to Tender documentation and issue to Bidders
* Communicating in a timely manner with a range of internal and external stakeholders including Senior Leadership, suppliers and Subject Matter Experts
* Leading/ managing staff, advising, coaching and developing Commercial Assistants and Commercial Officers
* Conducting assurance and due diligence of commercial activity within own area of responsibility in order to provide confidence in commercial outcomes. Participating in Peer Reviews as required
* Contributing to wider Commercial Function and DE&S/SDA business improvement. * Relevant Study for Chartered Institution of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) to achieve Level 4 qualification, if not already held. This will be funded by DE&S / SDA
* Practitioner Level Accreditation Panel to demonstrate Government Commercial Function (GCF) professional standard

To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:
* Previous experience establishing sourcing strategies in the pursuit of value for money
* Experience with sourcing procedures and the ability to evidence knowledge of the supply market to support the development of appropriate sourcing strategies
* Evidence of leading, developing, or motivating others, to ensure delivery
