Key Responsibilities

Reporting into the Managing Quantity Surveyor/Senior Quantity Surveyor, the Quantity Surveyor has responsibility for the back-office support function, evaluation, negotiation, management and mitigation of commercial and contractual risks for the contracts within the Commercial team of our Telecoms division.

As a Quantity Surveyor your role will be providing commercial input, advice on commercial opportunities and savings to the management and project teams to maximize commercial benefit of all contracts. You will be managing and securing payment for contract variations, bonus target payments and contractual claims ensuring that timely and appropriate contract notices and correspondence are issued, project risk management and review of contract documentation as well as post contract commercial and contractual correspondence for individual contracts.

You will ensuring that commercial, bonus schemes and administrative systems, budgets and cost control procedures are in place and operated correctly across all contract operations and all managers, key interface areas within the business are briefed and have sufficient support to monitor and react to budget variances. Production of weekly costs if required as well as production of monthly costs; build database, print records, complete cost comparison for each cost code, highlight errors and monitor corrective action. Complete cost reconciliations when required. There will also be monthly checking of Head Office Accruals to see if they relate to current contract, whether they are already accrued for on Siteman and so in GRN/PRN figure.

Your duties will also include planning, forecasting, submission and agreement of applications and subsequently reporting contract commercial performance. CVR reporting for incorporation into monthly management accounts. You will also manage all necessary support functions in line with company processes and procedures, producing relevant information with emphasis on commercial.

Management skills are key as you will be managing commercial aspects of sub-contract accounts from procurement to interim and final account agreement. Also, drafting of sub-contractor, major supply and professional services agreements and settling final accounts subject to agreed sign-off levels

What do we need from you?

To be successful in this role you will need to be commercially aware with knowledge in procurement, be customer aware and innovative, be capable of maximising contract benefits for mutual and longer-term benefit. You must be able to lead, set up and manage site-based commercial and reporting systems. Have strong analytical skills, highly organised, excellent attention to detail and effective written communication. You will be an expert in problem solving, a skilled communicator and a competent negotiator.

You will be IT literate with experience of working with MS office applications and Cost Control systems (eg Siteman). Have a good understanding of internal/external systems along with a hands-on approach with proven ability to run own jobs. Ideally you will have a Degree/HND or equivalent, member of RICS or working towards and experience of working in a utility environment. Valid UK full driving license.
