We have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Manager to join our Commercial/Engineering/Capital Delivery team at our Head Office in Warrington.

Working closely with the Head of Programmes this role has end-to-end Commercial responsibility for all major construction projects that are delivered to your regional hub - you will manage a commercial team of cross functional business personnel, to deliver batches of projects and business requirements across the commercial function department on workload, as well as providing a value added customer service to the Water and Wastewater business in the form of a trusted advisor to its senior business leaders.

What will you focus on?

  • Accountable for managing the pre and post contract commercial performance of all project delivered in your Hub
  • Drives performance of contracts and suppliers throughout the contract life cycle
  • Deliver innovation and value for money through continuous development of the commercial function including best practice contract assurance, supplier relationship management, total cost management, process efficiency/compliance, external bench-marking of best practice
  • Motivate, manage, coach and develop an Area Commercial Team as required in line with specific development needs
  • Provide commercial expertise and guidance to key stakeholders
  • Understand and contribute to business strategy and policy through category planning & stakeholder influencing
  • Negotiating contractual agreements with external providers to ensure the service, quality, added value, total cost management and security of supply
  • Proactively manage and mitigate commercial and business risk

  • Provide an effective pre and post contract management service to ensure that all duties specifically delegated to the Commercial function under the contract are carried out

What do you need?

  • Quantity Surveying degree or equivalent, with a relevant post-graduate qualification (eg: CIPS,RICS, MBA, MSC) preferable
  • Chartered Membership of a relevant institution (eg Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Institution of Civil Engineers or equivalent)
  • A demonstrable track record of providing leadership and management to a commercial team.
  • Must have end-to-end management experience of construction programmes to include commercial and contract management, implementing new commercial relationships cross functional and business boundaries and a quantifiable track record of savings delivery and change implementation
  • Must have knowledge of key procurement processes, tools and methodologies used by leading edge procurement practitioners.
  • Must have knowledge of techniques for implementing commercial agreements in a complex and rapidly changing environment
  • The ability to influence at senior management levels to embrace and support the strategic agenda is essential.
  • Strong impact and influencing skills and ability to engage with senior managers and other key stakeholders in a meaningful way so that they buy in to new approaches to commercial management.
  • Strong commercial acumen, negotiation and resolution skills.
  • Demonstrable track record in continuous improvement techniques and development of processes and procedures to support the Contract Assurance model to improve cost to serve.
