About Shelter
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.
At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.
We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.
About the team
Our Accommodation Services Team helps offenders obtain or retain settled accommodation which has been identified as a key factor in successful rehabilitation and a reduction in re-offending. We aim to deliver a comprehensive and flexible service tailored to the individual that addresses and resolves identified housing needs while taking into consideration their specific goals. We also strive to enable them to access services that will tackle issues and help them move away from reoffending and build on their strengths. This is your chance to play a big part in our future.
About the role
As Service Manager, we'll look to you to directly manage three Senior Accommodation Advisers and an administrator plus a community-based accommodation service with in-reach into prisons and across a large National Probation Service (NPS) region. You'll also have responsibility for the remote staff teams that work with the National Probation Service and Resettlement Prisons to deliver accommodation interventions to Service Users pre and post prison release. Ensuring contractual KPIs are met while ensuring a quality standard is maintained will be important too. Along the way, you'll need to liaise with key stakeholders, including the National Probation Service, other Dynamic Framework providers, Local Authorities and Homelessness leads. And, when it comes to sitting on internal and external groups, representing Shelter or developing strategic partnerships to support the delivery of the contract, again, we'll count on you.
We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.
About you
To succeed, you'll need a positive approach, a real desire to help achieve the right to a safe home for service users plus experience of managing a service over a large geographical area. Great at managing others and building relationships with a variety of stakeholders, representing an organisation comes naturally to you too. What's more, you're proficient using a range of IT tools to carry out your work, including Microsoft Office applications, case management and reporting systems, internet, email etc. and, above all, have what it takes to ensure we deliver a comprehensive and flexible service that's tailored to the individual.
Benefits
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We're here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
