This post represents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to join a team of staff in Keele University’s School of Medicine, which is one of four Schools in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences.

We are delighted, that under the Directorship of Professor Christian Mallen, Keele University will be hosting the directorate team supporting the NIHR School for Primary Care Research (SPCR). The NIHR have recently announced the fourth phase of the SPCR with a refreshed membership and a new focus on supporting the full spectrum of primary care research and building research capacity. NIHR research schools are national collaborations between leading academic centres that fund outstanding research in primary care, public health and social care. The SPCR carries out world leading research primary care, providing a focus for primary care research within the NIHR and supporting the development of primary care research. With nine member institutions this new phase of the SPCR has explicit aims to strengthen the primary care research sector more broadly, covering sectors such as community nursing and pharmacy as a well as general practice.

The School of Medicine has an enviable track record in high quality education and research; a large school comprising a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, which draw upon a long and distinguished heritage.  Our research within the School is world leading, with active grants in excess of £30 million. We were rated joint 1st for impact and 5th overall in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework and are home to the Primary Care Centre Versus Arthritis and a European League Against Rheumatism Centre of Excellence. We are also members of the prestigious NIHR School for Primary Care Research, host a NIHR accredited Clinical Trials Unit and an innovative Impact Accelerator Unit.

The School’s educational programmes include undergraduate and post graduate teaching in medicine, counselling & psychotherapy, public health, physicians associate and social work and is home to approximately 800 undergraduate students, 330 postgraduate students, 55 doctoral candidates and 280 academic and professional support staff. In 2021 we will be launching a new paramedic science programme. We pride ourselves in the quality of our teaching and the support we provide to students at all levels of study, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral.  Staff are regularly nominated for University Excellence Awards, and colleagues have won awards on multiple occasions.
