Technical Product Owner | Nottingham | 40-60k (DOE)
"We're heavily investing in data because we know it is the future of our business, but without a decent Product Owner to lead the roadmap it isn't going to work"
There are 2 types of Product Owner roles in my experience, one in a small team where you wear a lot of hats, effectively doing the job of a ScrumMaster, a Business Analyst, and a Project Manager alongside your Product Owner role???. or you're a Product Owner in a larger team where they have that structure in place to allow you to actually do your job well whilst being supported by a wider team.
This role is the second one.
You'll be the first (and only) Product Owner looking after a newly formed data analytics division within this fast-expanding business. Because they have grown rapidly via acquisition their data is currently everywhere, on multiple platforms & in various formats. They don't know what they have, let alone what to do with it. And that's where you come in.
At present there is a large focus on & investment in their data team & you'll be integral in helping them to become a data-driven company. To do this you'll work closely with C-Suite stakeholders to gather requirements & understand exactly what data they need, why & what they want it to look like. You'll create the user stories & then work in sprints with the engineering team to deliver whatever is needed.
Ideally you'll have done this type of role before, likely as a Product Owner or as a Business Analyst within an agile environment. You'll be able to speak to the techies on their level & be also to translate quite complex technical subject matter around ETL & reporting to non-technical stakeholders when needed. I'm not looking for an ex-developer or tester for this role, you must be thoroughly experienced as a BA or PO so that you can hit the ground running and start to really gel with your stakeholders.
As with any fast-growing business culture is key. They were a start up a decade ago and are now a highly reputable business who are one of the East Midlands' biggest success stories. Because of that, they still have that small company, non-corporate feel, but with the process & structure that comes with a bigger organisation. They're the best of both worlds really.
This organisation is based in Nottingham. They are all working remotely at the moment due to Covid but are hoping to return to more of a blended 60/40 office/home split once it is safe to do so. There is definitely a place for home working, but they have found over the last year that they are missing a lot of the positives of collaborating & the ad-hoc business conversations that being together in the office brings. Therefore, if you're applying for this role, you'll need to be happy to travel to the Nottingham office 3 days per week.
