Intensive Support Worker

Working intensively with a small caseload of Young People seeking asylum, who have recently relocated to Bristol, building relationships and empowering young people to transition successfully to adulthood.

We have an opportunity for a new colleague to join our Intensive Support team in a focused role supporting young people who are seeking asylum and refugees and other care leavers. You will work intensively with a small caseload, building relationships and empowering young people to establish themselves and transition successfully to adulthood. Whilst following government guidance on social distancing measures due to COVID-19, we continue to deliver essential support to young people, carrying out face to face visits where necessary and also using technology to ensure we stay remotely connected with those who need our support. We are particularly keen to increase applications from people from ethnic minorities and male candidates as they are currently under-represented in our organisation. We are a leading youth homelessness charity based in the South West, working with over 2,500 young people. We have strong local partnerships and adhere to the best practice in the sector.  We build trusting relationships between our young people and our colleagues and this is at the core of our work.

What we are looking for:

  • You engage young people with confidence and passion.

  • You are empathetic and truly understand the complex needs of homeless young people, young people leaving care, and the barriers they face and have experience of working with asylum seekers and/or refugees.

  • You are enthusiastic and able to work on your own initiative as well as collaborating effectively with your team and external stakeholders, ensuring a safe and thriving home environment for your young people.

  • You have a working understanding of housing management, with the desire to learn more about this.

What you will be doing:

  • By adopting a flexible and creative approach to support, you will enable young people to establish themselves in Bristol, build their independent living skills and develop their resilience.

  • Being vigilant and responsible, you will ensure our properties provide a safe and welcoming home environment for young people.

  • Through effective joint working with a range of external partners, you will ensure young people receive considered and consistent support in a way that works for them.

  • By being well organised and efficient, you will maintain accurate and timely records to support effective and appropriate information sharing

You will be in the Transitions and Resilience team and your line manager will be our Intensive Support Service Team Leader.

Contract details: 

  • Hours per week: 30 (this represents 0.8 FTE)

  • Contract type: Fixed term (2 years) with likely extension to permanent

  • Pay: £25,481 - £27,041 per annum plus on call allowance (pro rata based on 0.8 FTE)

  • The location: This role is usually based in Kingsley Hall, close to Bristol’s main train and bus stations as well as the vibrant city centre, with travel across Bristol and occasional travel in South Glos.
