Assistant Shop Manager
Location: Amersham, Buckinghamshire (HP6 5EL)
Hours: part-time (14 hours, 2 days, across the week)
Contract type: Permanent
Salary: GBP16,217 per annum, pro rata (GBP6,487 for 2-day working week, per annum)


We have a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic and motivated retailer to join our busy Amersham shop.

Retailing with a difference

Working alongside the Shop Manager, together you will be responsible for the successful delivery of a profitable, customer focussed shop that is the 'window of the British Red Cross' on the high street.

Deputising for the Shop Manager on occasion, you will ensure the smooth running of the shop during their absence; this will include the accurate processing of any financial transactions, the delivery of shop floor and stockroom management, and adherence with policies and procedures.

Our shops are supported by a dedicated team of volunteers - we couldn't run our shops without them! You'll oversee your volunteers' induction, management and development, and will encourage your shop team to share any ideas that may contribute towards the success of the store.

Together, you'll create a shop that will uphold the British Red Cross' image and reputation, and help us raise vital funds that will help people in crisis.

Full of gifts, clothes and even the odd vintage gem, our 330 shops across the UK are home to over 6,500 volunteers and 700 paid staff. Our team is bright and bubbly, and we love meeting people from all walks of life.

This role might be for you if...
  • You're a retail star. You've got the experience and know-how from working in a shop environment.
  • You can go your own way. You can use your initiative for positive results.
  • Numbers don't faze you. You've got a good understanding of financial and numerical information and have experience of cash handling.
Also, you should have the following:
  • Ability to understand issues related to working with volunteers
  • Proven customer care skills
  • Proven IT skills, and a willingness to maintain our in-house stock systems daily
