Marine Operations Engineer
Middlesbrough (With some offshore and international travel)

Introduction:

Astute are looking for an experienced Marine Operations Engineer to join a major player in the subsea cable installation sector. Working from their office in Middlesbrough, this role will involve the management of marine assets and operational support for all offshore subsea cable installation projects.

This is a great opportunity for a junior level Marine Engineer to take a significant step up in marine operations in a role that is very busy and multi-faceted, with real career development prospects.
This role will predominantly be office based but will require some activities to be carried out offshore during operations.

Role & Responsibilities:

Asset Management:

Prepare vessel and equipment mobilization documentation including procedures, drawings, plans, schedules and risk assessments.
Budget preparation and cost control.
Subcontractor selection: including technical specifications used for quotation requests.
Liaising with project clients for technical, planning and operational matters.
Collating records, certificates, quality documents and more for final reports throughout projects.
Managing vessels and marine equipment through various phases of each project.
Coordinating maintenance, repairs and upgrades.
Providing feedback and suggesting improvements across procedures, vessels and equipment.

Operational Support:
This part of the role is mainly carried out on installation vessels and other marine installation sites such as landing points and offshore platforms.

Preliminary works such as route clearance, pre-lay burial runs and vessel mobilization.
Coordinating activities such as cable loading, cable laying, cable burial, cable pulling and cable repair.
Technical and quality management of all procedures associated with installation, compliance with specifications and documentation.
Health and Safety compliance for all personnel, reporting on activities.
Environmental compliance and reporting.
Company asset care including all verification tests/certification and correct operation for all equipment including vessels, subsea machines and tools.
Managing and reporting on operational constraints and specifications.
Reporting on project against schedule
Liaising with client representatives.
Supervision of subcontractors during installations.
Interface with various project teams including management, manufacturing, quality and engineering.

Skills and Qualifications:

A higher-level qualification in engineering is an advantage but not essential.
Project management or operational experience in a relevant industry.
Marine and/or offshore/subsea experience is advantageous.
Relevant offshore and health & safety certificates e.g. GWO's, BOSIET, IOSH and MIST.
